Shoulder Straps

As I’m building my pack, I’m starting to wonder how I can attatch the shoulder straps. The strap frame mentioned in the plans (ALICE I belive it’s called, yes?) isn’t, as far as I can tell, avalable in Australia. I’ve rung around and can’t find it.

I was wondering if anyone has ever used an alternatives for the straps. My pack is pretty light (mostly wood and plastic) so I was thinkin maybe just camping back pack straps stpled on or some such might be OK.

Any suggestions? :?

For the first two proton packs I ever built, I used car seat belts. I just screwed them to the mother board of the proton pack. It worked pretty well… If you really want an Alice pack frame and straps, I’m sure you could find one for sale on the web.

Thats a good idea. It dosen’t really worry me if I get an Alice strap or no, as long as I can wear the thing - lol.

on my pack I used straps from a back pack. just staple them to the pack and support with duct tape and you should be fine. Although the ALICE frame would be nice to have, they can be expensive depending on where you find it. I would check your local Army Surplus store before you look online.

A camping pack frame would work excellent. From what I have seen here in the US. They are made almost exactly the same. The only problem is, you would have to cut off some of the extended bars (which is meant to put a sleeping bag and other emplements on). The straps and Kidney pads are vertually the same. Or, we are working on some Vaccum formed packs now, and we have a few extra ALICE frames and straps. If you want we could ship you one.

Thanks for the suggestions. In Australia we don’t have army supply stores where civilians can just walk in. I’ll probably go with the back pack strap option, as its cheaper and I’m nt loaded.
