Names Ron 26, y/o outta phoenix, AZ. Just wanted to drop in and show off my nearly completed Ghostbusters video game wand. The type I chose, I believe, is the MK III version of the wand. You’ll have to excuse me if the naming of this wand is wrong as I don’t own a PS3 nor have I played the game at all. This wand was built using screen caps acquired from these forums, and photos from an RPF member build (hotshot to be exact).
The idea originally was to build up a regular GB movie wand from the extra parts from my pack build a few months back. Eventually, I would trade or sell it off for a ghost trap. After much convincing from another gb member, I decided to just go BIG with it!
To say that this is BIG is definitely and understatement. Hotshots right about the sizing of this thing. It really is almost the size of the pack! Yikes!
Templates for the two side gun bodies and mason collider (the big octagonal drum thing, if that names right), were first hand drawn to scale by measuring and estimating sizing from the original gun body. Next, parts were built with whatever was laying around the apt. Acrylic sheets, wood, plastic tubes, nuts, bolts, and of course an empty red bull can. Ha!
For the slimblower, the red bull can was sanded down to remove the paint and the base of the tip was used from an adjustables long lasting air freshener that you can get from any supermarket for a buck. Using throwingchickens method, I covered and wrapped the slim thrower tip from an empty soda can to match the sanded red bull can. I felt that this method looks more realistic than just painting the tip silver.
Woah… thats amazing, and built from an irri mould I see, great kit. How heavy and fragile is it? I’d imagine those glass valves being pretty delicate. Its a very close replica to the game wand, are you planning to put any lighting in it? I know that its gonna be tough seeing as the game wand is covered in lights
I share Rick’s concern about the Red Bull can being very prone to denting. That would be my suggestion, as well; to use PVC pipe or something stronger.
Morning guys and thanks for all your compliments and words of encouragement!
In regards to the slime blower, if i had the chance to do it again, i would probably use PVC and then wrap THAT in the aluminum can. The goal of this piece is to be more of a display prop rather than a “trooping” prop. But who knows, if i have any more time i may throw lights in it and build a matching game pack as well.
As requested here are a few more pics. The first set is compared next to throwing chickens wand. This will kinda give you an idea the scale of this thing.
Also! i wanted to include two main reference screenshots directly from the game that really helped me in building this prop. This is for anyone who wants to give it a go.
