Mattel’s new Slime Blower Winston figure is definitely a step in the right direction, but it still needed a little extra work:)
This is still pretty early on, a lot of little details need to be done on the slime gun, but I’m happy with how the figure is shaping up.
I really wanted to add a little more definition to the vest’s upper sleeve area, I felt Mattel’s was just too puffy. I ended up punching through, so there’s a couple holes that will need to be patched up and the new sleeves sanded and tweaked a bit. Will be adding a waist strap, as well as repositioning the lifegard.
For the pack, I sanded down the frame so that the whole thing sits a lot closer to Winston’s back. Also swapped out some of the cables for some smaller scale ones. Added some details to the small white boxes on each green tank, and added the small gray ‘tray’ to the bottom of the main tank. Still will have to do the head cushion for the main tank, as well as re-attach the hoses.
With the gun, I sanded down the red wire and replaced it with an actual wire. Still need to add the small black band around the back of the gun, re-attach the hose underneath the gun, work on the strap/sling for it as well as some other odds and ends. Also want to see about adding a few details to the metal bands towards the front, might see if either a chrome paint or bare metal foil might work so they stand out against the silver gun.
damn you Mereel! just when I think Ive got a great figure on my hands that looks like it needs no improvement, you come along and do THIS! now its gonna bug me every time I look at him, remembering how much better yours looks…
He’s looking much better already! Any thoughts on making a custom GB2 belt for him? It’s been bugging me how Mattel won’t re-sculpt the belts for the GB2 figures (both 6" and 12").
joeghostbuster-I felt the same way once I started looking over the reference pics, lol. It’s surprising just how much better their figures look with a little bit of tweaking. All stuff Mattel should be doing in the first place.
Demon Vice Commander-For his GB2 belt, I’ll be doing a few things to improve the look of the belt. I shaved off the middle grommets so that should help a little. The buckle I probably won’t bother with since the slime gun will be blocking it. I will be adding some of the bigger belt key fobs to hopefully differentiate the GB1 and GB2 belts. I agree completely though, I wish Mattel would have two different belts for the two different movies, would help the figures feel more like $20.00 figures, the more movie-specific pieces they have. I wouldn’t mind Mattel reusing molds so much if they actually put a little more effort into them:(
Beautiful work on this, it brings a tear to my eye. :crunch: :crunch: :crunch:
I do have one suggestion. Don’t use the bare metal foil on just one spot. If you do, you will wind up doing every other piece that should be metal as they will no longer look good.
Hey Cap! I got to thinking about it and, you’re right, lol. I WOULD end up wanting to go back and do a lot of the metal areas with the chrome, so better just to stick to chrome-ish paint, haha.
demonvicecommander- You got me thinking (and looking closer to the references) and decided to go ahead and try for a belt that looks similar to their GBII ones, and stands out enough against the GB1 customs I’m doing. I never realized how many different key fobs these black belts have!!
I should have another small update this weekend to post. Got a little more work done on the slime thrower, and progress on the GBII belt.
hey make sure you put a ■■■■■■■■ the blower gun, people are wondering where the gun should rest but in the movie, but I remember a strap like a guitar.
Small update: Just an early shot of Winston’s new vest compared to Mattel’s stock vest. Also a little bit of early progress on the GBII belt. Still a lot to do, but it’s chugging along.
Also, did some work on the ECU. Still need to add a few other things, but I really like how it turned out. Thanks goes out again to CaptCyan, whose ECU labels really inspired me to try some of my own.
