smoking trap...

Didn’t they used in the movie some kind of strip and applied some chemical to make it smoke?

I personally don’t know what it was , chemistry is not My thing.

I’m liking the e-cig one. Good job!

Been there, done that. Many of us have tried that already. I used mostly LGB train smokestacks. I’ve built a half dozen different ideas for a smoking trap as have many of the members here. I respect that newer members are trying to think of new ways but most are going down the same idea we’ve already had and tried. Ultimately Boomerjinks had the best solution which was to accept it couldn’t hit all of the goals ( affordable, safe, can be turned on/off with a switch, enough pressure to leave the interior of the trap, etc. ) and just make one blow up. At least we all got a good laugh out of that.

The train engine didn’t really work because there isn’t enough pressure to let is escape the trap. The tube itself is long and must lie flat meaning you need to find a way to make the vapor turn 90 degrees and leave. A shaped vent isn’t enough. Adding a fan just dissipates the vapor until nothing visible is leaving the trap.

Ultimately the only reasonable idea was the Tiny Fogger which was $1200 back then and (ulp) now seems to be $1,850 so there goes the goal of “affordable.” I hate the incense burners because you can’t turn those on and off at will. I’ve been trapped indoors with someone who had an incense burner going and people who were dining demanded the management to bring them a fresh meal since this was one covered in smoke. I’ve heard a similar story from GBs who went to a convention in Las Vegas many years ago and brought one on their public rail system while still smoking. In a word, I hate incense burners. What a sloppy and lazy way to make it happen.

Now this e-cigarette burner posted in the video above? That’s the first reasonable proposal I’ve seen in a while.

I believe Boomerjinks found this great idea many years ago and for the price, it seems to be the most reasonable idea.

Hey, its been a LOOOOOOONG time since I’ve logged back i, so maybe this idea has already been covered, but for a compromise for either/both practicality & cost, why not cram a larger smoke generator into a SLIME BLOWER, with a tube going through the uniform, down a sleeve, and into a trap.?

…which I say as someone with NO experience with smoke machines, outside of the dangerous halloween ones that get hot. So I don’t know if that would be an issue to put it in a empty slime tank, if it has to be up right, if its too heavy, too great chance of a hot fluids leaking out, etc.

If that’s not a problem, than I don’t know if there’s enough fog, even with something to blow it up the tube, if there’s enough smoke & pressure to make the trip. If its the heat-based kinda of smoke, I don’t know then if there’s too much heat, causing the tube to run through the costume to burn you, unless you’d compromised, and just had a visible tube from the trap in your hands to the slime blowr.

Finally, I can’t remember if any ghostbusters wore the slime blowers AND the traps at the same time, but that’s a minor nitpick :stuck_out_tongue:

So yeah, I realize most of my post was spent arguing against my own idea ^_^;; Hopefully someone can prove my own counterarguments wrong, or your idea above turns out to be a success.

So you have a full size smoke machine inside a slime blower. What do you power that with? A car battery?

I’m surprised no one’s turned a trap into a bong.

Challenge issued.

I did install a 90 degree elbow pipe in mine in order to be able to contain a smoke pellet. I guess that’s close enough?
