So the iPad's finally coming out.

Anybody getting one? why or why not?

I’m trying to raise money for an iPad to review, so I decided to make a contest out of it: the person that donates the most money will win the iPad once I finish reviewing it. There’s a link that has more info in my signature.

For that price you could get a quad-core notebook, or for a little more than half that price you could get a netbook. Other than being Apple and surely being something fun to play with (at first), what is the draw?

The iTampon is a huge waste of money

It’s a piece of ■■■■ and not even worth a review.

Pick up a rock and the only difference is that the iPad has a screen.

As sarcastic as that image is… it’s actually accurate. And that in a nutshell is why the iPad has no draw except for douchers that NEED to have the latest gadget to show off because of just how cool they are.

Some people are delusional enough. Its usually easy to spot them since most do look alike.

LOL

If it could run Photoshop and had a stylus then I’d probably be all over it. When I heard little bits and details about the project I thought they were going for an Apple-produced version of the ModBook, which would have been interesting to see since ModBook pretty much owns the entire artist-tablet PC market.

The problem with all of the Windows-based tablet PCs, while they run my OS of choice, the tablet hardware is designed for business use so therefore lacks some of the bells and whistles most artists would prefer for that kind of slate set up.

God, listen to you guys complain! I hate this screwdriver because it’s not a hammer!

I don’t quite recall our numbers from our last global comms meeting, but it showed that best-selling Apple product for the last year or so has been the iPod Touch, something like 30 million units sold. And what does a successful company do when a certain line of products is incredibly successful? That’s right, they branch out into similar veins to reinforce and expand that product base.

If/when I get an iPad, it won’t be because I want to use it for making art or doing what I would do on a laptop. I’ll be using the iPad for what it was designed to do; reading my electronic copy of Popular Science and Newsweek, replacing newspapers and television for news and videos, and as an ereader for my books.

I’ll also probably be getting it when a second generation is released, which will have twice the capabilities for half the price as Apple is wont to do, ahem

Seriously, you guys are complaining that the iPad is not something that it never claimed it was. It’s not a tablet PC, why do you think it’s not called the iTab? It’s a simple extension and advancement of the iPod Touch technology.

Also, CPU really needs to get with the program. The only thing more annoying than fanboys who love their Macs for no reason are retarded PC homebodies who hate Macs for no reason.

SMUG ALERT

I read the Cintiq 21UX and 21WX are still on top of the artist-tablet market…

Sorry but I never said I hate Macs.

I have no problem saying that apple products are at a much higher level of quality than any regular run-of-the-mill, made in china, PC counterpart.

But for a product which will be obsolete in a short time and will need to be replaced, it makes much more logical sense to spend as little as possible for as much power as you can.

That’s not the concern of many mac fans, they just want a “cool club” ticket. And when time comes to get a new model, they’re trying to sell their old one so they can recoup some of the money they spent on their overpriced computer. I see it often.

I own a few apple products that I got for free, including my ipod touch. I just don’t like when people fall into the same category as the fake French guy in the cartoon I posted above. They say their Mac is better, but really can’t explain why.

Its not the product, its the mentality of “most” of its users.

Mac ■■■■ suck. People that want a reliable product backed by the top-rated customer support ground in the world don’t.

Also, Apple products are manufactured in China…image

I know they are. But they have to pass apple’s QC, in California.

Generic PC components don’t. And the “engrish” seen in their manuals and boxes is a good example.

And some of their desktops are assembled here, with imported components yes, but still with more quality and pride.

(Same with the Sony VAIO I have)

Just one look inside them and its pretty obvious. Apple systems are designed to work well and be aesthetically pleasing both inside and out. Much like SGI systems, which most of them are made in the US.

But in the end its still a [price tag] vs [product lifespan] situation.

The Cintiq, while a fantastic product and surely the best for on-screen digital painting, is just a monitor with a stylus. It doesn’t offer on-the-go versatility.

Am I the only one that read this correctly? The user wants people to donate money so they can buy an iPad to review on their blog and then they will magically whisk this away to the user that donates the most money?

Technically, it means that any one of us could get an iPad for half price…

What if you don’t get enough donations to buy an iPad?

Only if he raises enough donations to actually afford it. :stuck_out_tongue:
