So, wanting to build or, well, acquire a pack.

And, well, I have absolutely no idea where to even start. I admit I WAS going to spend the money from that Bob’s prop house or whatever for a partly built pack, but then I read about them on this site, and more or less ruled that out.

I was already on the side of simply using a neutrino wand from Mattel, as I dunno how good it’ll look either way, and giving that I’m a total novice currently I care that it works.

But, where to look for base components would be a huge help, especially on where to get a base to start from.

In all honesty about the most complex prop deal I did was, well, this:

Disassemble,d painted, reassembled, and when I finished it no longer fired, so yeah, my confidence isn’t too high, and I don’t have near enough to just purchase a pack that has what I want, but I do want to put together a Ghostbusters outfit and the proton pack is, well, borderline essential.

Anyway, knowing where to get at least the base for it would be a huge help, since from what I hear quite a few people make the shells.

Well you have options.

Id suggest looking first at how much you are willing to spend mate.

I started with a GBFans hero shell from thr store here.

Check out my thread to figure out how much my wallet hurt for.

Well I’m not looking to have it done right away, for me that’s a bit unrealistic, especially since it’s winter here, and thanks for my family’s shed being borderline worthless I have no place to start work on anything right now.

Dude we are in the same boat. I took over the laundry room and have suffered subsequent beatings from my wife.

A shell is a good starting point. The shop here has the frames, shell and motherboards to get started.

Ok, looking at the shop thi seems like a good jumping off point, at least for the pack frame and the shell, and the pack frame, if I don’t get it here I can get it elsewhere.

well I feel like a moron for not looking at the shop properly.

Plus this is a far better deal than that Bob’s place, where they charge you double just for the shell.

And I have no idea they had the motherboard too, I was seriously worrying about having to cut one out myself.

I have plenty of aluminum parts to put on one of those fine shells as well

Hearing Bobs name makes me want to punch babies.

There is also a shell that Nickatron makes thats a GB2 Semi hero. It has a few parts molded in (booster tube and ion arm) but given his shell is in the UK you’d get raped for postage.

Yeah, giving how much it would have cost and how much simpler it looks now, I’m deleting that place from my bookmarks.

Hell, the electronics don’t even look too difficult.

I just hope it’s not too sinful to just use the matty collector wand, as with that oen doesn’t even have to build their own, least not at first.

You would be correct but to have a fully functional pack, your kit wouldn’t interface with of the known and used kits for electronics.

There are a few people who are using them to get buy. Hell I even have two matty wands in the basement. I wanted my pack to be fully controllable (lights and sound) from the gun.

Bob re ran speaker leads to his big ass nasty pack but the gun doesn’t control his pack lights. See what im getting at?

Would make a good temporary solution then as, thinking about it ,being able to switch everything on using the wand would actually be ideal, especially since, and I may be foolish here, it’d be nice to eventually do some of the upgrade from the game, like the pop up thing got the meson collider or the reservoir tube the the PDS.

Thats Beyond me while I liked the game psck and its assorted upgrades, im a purist.

I imagine you’d have a helluva time modifying a matty wand tho not unpossible.

That’s why for me the Matty wand might be temporary, looking at the wand electronics that might not even be difficult, even if I can’t get that sweet barrel retraction

Well, after browsing the shop and looking at the electronics kits, my confidence has risen quite a bit.

Brother im living breathing proof that with the help of the community and doing some research you can do this. Anyone can.

Plug and play electronics, fairly reasonable prices, stickers, screw on parts, it’s like a puzzle, hell yeah I can do this!

That’s the spirit! When I first researched building a pack over a decade ago, it was a completely different scene. These days, thanks to all the innovators and information sharing, it’s closer to building a giant Lego set than ever before. You’ll still undoubtedly run into an issue here or there but I’d be shocked if you couldn’t get past any issues with the support of people here.

Good luck!

WARNING!

After attempting to build a pack for a very long time I decided to have one built for me. My pack was and is perfect. I love it in every way. It far exceeded my expectations and I proudly show pictures of it to every one I can. But you know what? I want another one. And so will you. Even if you build a perfect proton pack you’ll want a second one. A third one. A fourth one. Folks warned me that one wouldn’t be enough and I thought they were crazy but it’s true. Once you start down this road there is no going back. You’ll be 70 years-old building packs in your garage.

He’s right! I’m not even done getting my current one exactly how I want it and I’m already starting to think about the second pack…

Most likely a power source, since as far as I know nuclear power cells aren’t cleared for civilian use and not real…

Any suggestions on a battery pack?

I’ll bear that in mind, I admit I kind of have another GB related project in mind, course I need to see if I can get my hands o nan Ecto 1 type siren.
