To the select few that are getting an Exoray sound kit: (and i guess everyone else)
What extra sounds do you plan on loading on it? Do you plan on keeping his “stock” sounds? Maybe we can get a huge sound thread together.
I personally will be loading the theme song, as im sure many others will be, and I have been trying to pick out some good one liners from the movies to maybe put on as well.
Maybe some Spengler Quotes? I’ll have to get the board first to see how it works and how to trigger the sound events. I’d like to put the Main Title Theme in ther somwhere too. There ar a lot of neat things you can do once you add sound, but its a big question as to how the sound is activated. I guess I’ll see once it shows up.
When you power on the pack via the power up switch on the gun light kit, you get the power up sound. When you power it down you get the power down sound. When you activate the gun you get the gun sounds.
For all the rest of the sounds you’ll need to buy and place additional momentary switches on your pack somewhere to trigger them, with each switch triggering one sound, for a total of I think it was five or six custom sounds.
The details are all there in the threads on his light kit in the for sale forum.
I kinda wish he’d gone with a different setup myself, cause that’s a lot of extra switches to buy and find homes for.
Personally I would have set it up so you could just press one button, the flash button he has on the gun light kit, to rotate through as many different sounds as you want that begin playing when you hit the button and are stopped by firing the gun.
Due to lack of time and the failer of my firewire port I never did get a video of the kit in action until now, this is unedited video taken with a different camera… Large files but the best I can do right now…
I know the sounds are fully customizable, so it can be changed, but is there some reason you default to a shorter version of the pack startup sound? Maybe to ensure it’s stopped well before someone tries to fire the gun to avoid any delay in the gun fire sound?
That is the real Sony sound, I even purchased a license for me to use in my design… There is a slight ramp up to the hum after that, but then you end up with an awkward transition of either cutting the hum off or fading it out and fading doesn’t work well when you have the hum enabled…
As you said people are more then welcome to do their own sounds… It wasn’t really a priority on y part as I expect many will want a unique flavor of sound anyway…
Oh I know it’s the real sound, it just cuts off before the ramp up as you said. Links to the real sounds from the Sony SFX CD were posted to the forum about a month ago.
Gunza:
I’m pretty sure the system can only play one sound at a time, so when you trigger one the previous one stops. That’s why the hum causes a pause if it’s playing when you try to fire the gun. The hum sound needs to stop, so the gun sound can be played.
This was an issue I tossed up and there was really not a “best” way that I could decide upon, each had it’s pros and cons…
Anyway when the gun is firing, nothing will interrupt it…
The additional sounds need to be triggered while the pack is in the standby state, or when the hum is playing…
Once the additional track starts it overrides the pack sounds completely, the sound plays until it’s over…
Do note that if this really becomes an issue I will entertain some firmware tweaks to your taste… Yes it would require sending th board back to me but small tweaks would be done free of charge, larger and more complex ones might incur a charge… I have full control of the code so the possibilities are really endless…
All in all I would love for the kit to be perfect for everyone but there are so many possibilities, the primary design was for a GB pack sound system, the features are just that features over and above the basic design…
Aah… so the only way to stop, for example, the GB theme song once it has started is to turn off the pack completely?
On that note… will the sound board start to draw current when it is switched on (first switch) or when the “startup button/bar graph” is activated? (I.e. can the whole thing, pack, gun and sound be switched on using only ONE switch?)
for the 4 extra sounds are the switches included in the sound kit or will we need to buy them. If we need to buy them what switches are recomended and were should we buy them?
