We’re all aware of the original bootleg GBII score ripped from the DVD audio channels. Has an attempt been made/is it possible to do similar (perhaps to a better quality) with the recent Blu Ray? Don’t own the disc myself but I’m fairly certain I heard a much higher quality version of the score being used in the background of the blu special feature, ‘Time is But a Window: Ghostbusters II and Beyond’ that I watched online. This background music sounded like it had come from the master reels!
Yeah, I’m assuming the content creators had access to the score masters. I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t think the BR DTS-HD 5.1 audio has a separate score track. The score will still be baked in with the dialog and FX. It would probably be a better technical score rip, but along the lines of what we already have.
It seems like someone hit up Varese Sarabande and/or Edelman, and was told that at that time, the masters couldn’t be found. Hopefully that’ll change and we can get an official release of the entire score.
not having the GB2 score released is easily one of the biggest shames I can think of in the fandom. I personally thought it was a worthy score for a sequel and glad they explored new themes(seeing how it was Edelman and not Bernstein) the second time around.
I once commented on the score use on the new documentary from the blu ray and got a response that, though unsure of it’s source validity, really got my hopes up.
My comments and the responses are under my name Paul Stefan Gill. Have a read of that and let me know what you think.
I noticed the unedited score music used during the documentary as well. Is it bad communication between companies or is it really lost?
