So I am almost done with my pack, using a studio creation vacuform shell. Their is a costume contest later this week that I really want to enter as a ghostbuster. The only thing I have left to do is attach the shell to the motherboard. Everything else (minus the lights which i know im not going to have time to finish) is done. I was thinking of temporary attaching the shell to the motherboard with heavy duty black zip ties. How horrible of an idea is this? (keep in mind this is temporary until I can get the correct L brackets)
I think the only downside would be the holes you would have to drill to do that. I think they would need to be patched when you use the real mounts.

It might work. Depending on how you eventually attach it (I bolted the L-shaped brackets to my mobo then bolted the shell to that) you may not need to add extra holes.
Id be afraid of it slipping or drooping down your back, especially with a heavy gun attached (or if it gets hung on something - and it probably will). If the ties are too tight they may cause the vacformed shell to crack or rip around your bolt holes. You may literally rip yourself a new bolt hole.
I’d be tempted to cut blocks of wood and use screws; you could mount them where you are going to eventually put your brackets so it would simply be a matter of swapping them out!
Went ahead and used zipties. Im using a studio creation and matty thrower. Both do not weight a lot. Im ready for Halloween. Im going to fix it up and throw lights in it after.
On a side note…God damn is it hard to holster the gun back onto the pack while wearing it…even with the GB2 style v-hook.
It takes practice. Usually, I keep a gun buddy nearby to rehang mine and vice versa.
Ya it’s gotta be the hardest part about the job. Always good to have an extra person near by to give you a hand with it.
Good to hear I’m not the only one. Life long fan of ghostbusters…build my own pack, only to not be able to holster the thrower…feel like there is a bad luck Brian meme in there.
