It isn’t very often that my home town makes national news. Back in 1993 the cities of Eastern Iowa made national news for what became known as the Floods of 93. Here we are, fifteen years later, and downtown Cedar Rapids is under ten feet of water.
My home county of Morgan in Indiana was on CNN last Sunday morning. I hoped out of bed and called home immediately, luckily my family is okay, mainly because they’re on a large hill, but in site of the White River. Pretty much everything around them is flooded, the roads have been closed, and the basement has a few inches of water in it. My sister’s dog is missing but that’s the only casuality in our family.
You guys getting too much rain, us in Georgia not getting enough -.-
Last time I saw rain was January 28th. I still have no idea why I moved.
There really is no other way to describe it other than “awesome”. And I don’t mean it in the sense tof “Wow, these storms are so cool!” I mean that you can stand and look at the rising water and feel nothing but awe. Just yesterday people were putting up walls of sandbags as a precaution downtown. Today, less then 24 hours later all of downtown is under water and I don’t mean just a few feet. I mean it looks like someone built a submerged city in the middle of a lake. Its just incredible, it really is.
FEMA to the rescue?
I just drove through minutes before the dam in Wisconsin broke and flooded out the road that I was driving down. (I’m not sure, but I think that was the lake that drained and all went to Iowa?)
Fema hasn’t been called yet. When the National Guard rolls in thats more or less when fema might step in. It costs alot to have fema roll through and take care of things. They do their job great but, there is always help when it is needed in a commnity which is broughten together though tough times. I have been watching the news while on a training event in Wisconsin. I am in a group that bridges the gap between local hlep and fema in times like these. If you see the cerf team roll from Minnesota then you will see me doing my job.
I thought this year we would return to a drought by now in the midwest but, seems I was wrong in a bad way. I hope all is well with everybody and hope nothing bad happens to all ghostbusters around the area or anybody for that matter. I heard about the tornado through the cub scout camp and my heart dropped.
