Well I’m just beginning what I like to call my Mk. II Proton Pack. I built my first when I was 11 out of scraps my dad had in his shed and this is my first professional one. I’m using parts from GBFans, Nick-a-tron and MMM.

I’m still waiting on some bits and pieces to roll in or come up for sale again, so lets begin anyway.

^Got most of the bits and pieces I need to make a start. Should keep me busy during my days off.

^My work space for the next few days.

^First I started with some fine sandpaper to just lightly clean up Nicks beautiful bumper. ( This is cast off the screen used)

^Next I went through and cleaned up the holes in the pack shell. I love this shell so much, was like a kid at chrissy when she arrived.

I kinda decided to throw a little Stantz into it being a Dan Aykroyd fan and Ray being my favourite, so using a small file and some rough sandpaper this is what I worked on…

^With my trust laptop loaded up as a guide I set to work, with a little help from a great mug of energy.

^After 90 minutes of sanding, checking, filing, sanding and checking this is what I finished up with. I threw a light behind it to help give and idea of what I was going for.

That’s what I’ve got so far. Pretty excited for this build. Can’t wait to get the final parts so I can really get stuck into it.

You’re off to a good start!

One question though, and I might be wrong - the original pack lights used (white) incandescent bulbs, so they gave a yellowish glow through the worn down power cell fins.

I only had a quick look at the demo video in the shop so things may have changed since then, but the power cell lights are blue LED’s. I know a few people have made the Stantz modifications to their packs so I don’t know if they all used light kits with white lights, but I thought I’d mention it just in case it made a difference to your build.

I do indeed have the blue powercell lights, but I noticed that the fiberglass has a rather yellow tint to it. When I get a chance tomorrow i’m gonna quickly wire up the powercell and give it a test just to see. If it comes out a bit blue so be it :whatever: , i still think it’ll look cool. :cool:

EDIT: Ok, so I had to check it out coz I’m kinda excited, it does indeed come through blue and it gives of a really cool affect to be honest, i dig it.

Ah OK, i wasn’t sure about the light kit. Just thought i’d bring it up now in case you didn’t like it and only found out towards the end of the build before it was too late to change.

At least you like it, that’s all that matters. I’m curious to see what it looks like now, don’t think i’ve seen anyone do it before.

I’m pretty sure Mburkit done this on his recent build. Quite well, I may add.

Hairy Biker here again folks, the fat man with the fat proton pack plan. Well it was a fairly bland day today which allowed for me to work on my dream build, with out further delay todays progress.

^There it is folks, the first hole drilled in the shell. Thoughts I’d start with something simple and it came no simpler.

^“That wasn’t such a chore now was it.”

^Next easy step was the crank know, I took a bolt from my old car I had laying around and it worked well with the crank knob, so I drilled and tapped and screwed the bolt in.

^Just an everyday bolt.

^Put the knob on, tighten the screws and done.

^Wish I’d taken more photos of this process, but I was on the zone. I drilled a hole for the Clippard, but it’s not secured yet. Still gota get the allen screws for it. As for the filler plug and beam line I traced the base plates and drew an X in them, right in the middle of the X i drilled my holes and bam secured.

^Just for a quick break I used a washer and the indentations on the bumper to figure out where to drill for the mounting process, did both sides, nothing fancy.

^This was rather simple, just used a sharp pencil and marked my spots, drilled, tapped and done.

^So this time I took pics. I placed the Ion Arm on and traced around it. Then I measured the holes on the arm from each direction and as you can see where the lines cross is where I drilled.

^I stuffed up the mounting of the HGA. I had a bolt I thought that would work so I redrilled and retapped it but stuffed up. So I looped the bolt through from the inside of the HGA and it seemed to work, I’ll just secrue it better a t a later date.

^HGA bolt and nut.

^Oh no. A chip.

^ A lil sealent filler and when dried should be right.

^Hey that looks like a Proton Pack. There’s todays progress.

Well ladies and menfolk, she seems to be coming together. I’m stilling waiting on the booster tube from MMM to show up, but that shouldn’t be too far away. Just a few small odds and ends to get and she should be near completion.

That looks great so far. Being a Stantz fan myself, I wanted to recreate his pack from GB1 as accurately as possible. However, the one thing I did not include was the detail of the missing paint near the powercell lights. After seeing how well yours came out, I may have to go back and do that to mine.

I took a while, I had a small fine file, rough sand paper, head lamp and DVD. I roughly figured out location and shape of the missing paint. The for 90 minutes I filed and sanded and constantly checked by throwing the head lamp behind it to ensure I was getting the effect I wanted, but all that work paid of and I’m pretty happy.

Back again folks, making some head way, but am very close to hitting a wall as I wait on the postie But heres todays progress.

^Thought I’d start by mounting the shock mount to the bumper, this was rather simple and I improvised a little. I started by tracing the shock mount and doing my standard X and drilled.

^Mounted. The flat head screw in the end I cut down to fit in as I ran a bolt from the underside.

^The bolt with a large nut used as a spacer. Like I said I improvised.

^Dummy mounted (not secured yet due to lack of allen bolts. That’ll happen Saturday.)

^Nice and snug.

^Next to mount the ribbon cable. This was simple too. I placed one of the plates down and positioned it using the filler plug as a guide the traced the circles, drilled, tapped, mounted. Worked well.

^And here’s where I am at the moment.

Currently I’m awaiting the arrival of my booster and PPD. I’ll pick up some allen bolts this week too. Hopefully will order a particle thrower kit soon too.

Is your shock mount temporary? Just a heads up, but the shock mount on a GB1 pack is mounted from inside the shell so the bolt is not actually visible. The way you are mounting it currently is GB2. You can do what you want, but I thought I would mention it since you are making a GB1 Stantz pack. Looks great so far.

Actually my shock mount is bolted from the inside. The screw on the outside is fake and easily removed. I was running off the PiH Ramis pack. Thanks for the heads up though. I’ll remove it.

This is coming along nicely! Definitely going to keep an eye on this build!

One thing though - if you’re going for GB1 don’t rely on the PiH pictures too much. That pack is the GB1 hero that was refitted for GB2 so it has some differences like the bellows screw and the Philips head screws instead of socket heads.

There’s a promo pic somewhere of Ray sat on some steps next to a pack - this was Egon’s pack basically as it was in GB1 (although i think i read it was from before/after filming as it’s got the Sage M50W resistor on the ion arm instead of the Dale RH50). Still, pics like this, and the film itself, are the best source of reference material for GB1 packs.

At the moment I’m running off the OMNI cover and what ever screen grabs I can get. It’s been slow going. I just received my booster and PPD yesterday so I’ll be doing some more work today.

Hairy Biker here again folks, been a while since I updated this here thread in a whiles just mainly due to laugh and great weather to get out on the bike and open up the throttle.

So lets kick of another update of The Hairy Bikers Proton Pack Build.

^ Here’s a little blast from my past. This is the pack I built when I was 12. It’s mostly scrap my Dad had laying around the car hole. Car parts, frying pan, oven parts and I think a hair straightener.

^ After a heads up from onlyalad19 I went back and removed the screw head I had on the shock mount.

^I also got the Clippard mounted. I know the screws are silver because I was unable to secure black ones, so I’m gonna be painting all the screws.

^ During the week my PPD and booster arrived from MMM so I started by drilling some holes in what I feel is the best spot to secure it. I then put the PPD in position and used a greylead to make my mark.

^ This is as far as I have gotten this week. I drilled and tapped the PPD then life got in the way.

Well folks hopefully today I’ll get some more work done, but until next time,

Anyone know what the circles on the N-filter looked like in GB1?

From my research, the N-Filter holes were drilled through and a steel meshing was used inside.
