Hi guys, Mike here. Been gone for a while and was wanting to come back to the forums on a better note.
After 6 years cruising in the 1960 Ecto 1. I knew we needed another car. Found another old Ambulance too, a 1963 Superior…but that poor car was a lost cause. Like the 1960 I did many years ago, the 63 went to a new family too.
As I continued to search for a donor, I could never get over the look of the Dodge Magnums the more and more I saw them. I love the tapered roof in the back, and they’re comfortable as ever on the highway. A little voice in the back of my head use to say, “that would make a slick looking, modern-day Ecto 1” Well, fast forward back to August. After looking long and hard, I fell in love with a Magnum at a used car lot that I finally decided on. Needed TLC from the beginning, but has definitely been a learning experience. The old Caddi ambulances are SOOOO much easier to work on. LoL
At any rate, I had been noticing Magnum Ecto conversions pop up around the country. It told me…guess other people heard that little voice too.
I didn’t want to copy anything I saw on the road, but I will say, a few cars were out there to draw inspiration from. But more than anything, myself and the rest of The Real Oklahoma Ghostbusters were really missing our old 1960 Ecto. It was important for me to carry on our fond memories with not the movie “Ecto 1” but rather “our” Ecto 1. So, I actually salvaged a good majority of our first Ecto’s roof gear. Some of it was just too large, some just didn’t look right. But some of it looked right on the money to me. I built Ecto a new roof box, decided my Code 3 light bars were just too darn big, and decided to try out the Weyland series bars. Programmed an external MP3 siren with multiple button controls to key up various Ecto siren sounds, and realized what a pain in the ass the earlier Dodge Magnums can be. LoL
Point being, I wanted to share. The video was intended to test the light bar patterns, and to test the programmable siren. All the audio in this clip is REAL, nothing is dubbed except the music track. However it did show me that tinted blue acrylic can “black out” reds and ambers on those bars. LoL. Still modding those.
She’s been a smash since we’ve had her on the road, many Ghostbuster shows with her to date, and quite the learning experience for me as far as cars go.
As far as Ecto 1s go…I think she looks pretty awesome.
Say hello to The Real Oklahoma Ghostbusters Ecto-1E
Mike
