The Sellgeek ALICE Frame vs. The Fox Outdoor ALICE Frame

So, Sellgeek is offering an ALICE Frame on their website, Etsy, and eBay. (I believe Etsy is the best price.) There are only around a dozen left in stock.

For those unfamiliar, Sellgeek sells somewhat high end geek collectibles.

On the surface, the ALICE frame they’re selling looks like a Fox Outdoor frame with a neck pad added.

The product listings say it’s made of steel and weighs 4 pounds, which certainly seems like more than a standard Fox Outdoor ALICE Frame. Digging around, I can find a listing on Fox Outdoor for an $80 ALICE Frame with an aluminum frame “with steel cross members” that weighs 3.1 pounds.

The listing is here:

No other listings I can find for Fox Outdoor ALICE Frames mention steel at all. The Amazon listing for the Fox Outdoor ALICE frame weighs 2.8 pounds, counting packaging.

On Sellgeek’s Facebook, they said they commissioned a small batch of their frames from “a manufacturer who specializes in sporting goods”. This is pretty obviously Fox Outdoor (or the factory they use). The straps and design look identical to me.

I have seen Facebook posters confirm that the Sellgeek frames ARE steel and are magnetic although I haven’t gotten confirmation if that includes the entire frame or just the cross members.

Does anyone have a Sellgeek frame?

Does anyone have a Fox frame and a magnet to confirm if theirs is partially or entirely steel?

It looks to me like Fox might have 2-3 variants from the same tooling and that the Sellgeek frame might actually be unique.

I impulsively bought a Sellgeek frame. I may have made a bad decision. Or a good decision.

Thoughts?

Update: The Sellgeek frame is different from the Fox frame. I’ve confirmed it’s all steel whereas some Fox frames have a steel cross and some don’t. The straps look near-identical to Fox and it may be manufactured by Fox since Sellgeek said they commissioned a run of these from a sporting goods company.

Still, look at the bottom of the frame compared to a Fox.

Fox Frame Variant:

Be aware: some Fox frames have holes at the bottom that will accommodate the Proton Pack spacers. Some do not. I have heard people with both versions claim they got theirs from GBFans as well as Amazon.

The Sellgeek pack has a distinct bottom and apparently does include the spacer holes.

Thank you for this timely post! I ordered the sellgeek over the weekend and it shipped today. I’m in CA so I think I should receive it quickly. If there’s anything you’d like to see I can post it here. I also have arriving today a Fox LC-1 from Amazon - I hope it has the holes.

Oh! And here’s a Rothco!

So Fox has two designs. One is close to but subtly different from Rothco.

Geeksell is completely different. Like I say, the bottom bar is the big thing to look at.

But the center brace on the Geeksell is also different from Fox and Rothco as the indentation on the center brace of the Geeksell continues down past the bottom bar whereas the indentation stops above the bottom bar on the Fox and Rothco. And a GI LC1 from the 70s has no indentation at all on the lower half of the center brace, nor does the LC2.
