The unknown switch

The bottom of the switch has 4 tapped screw holes so I’m guessing that’s how they attached it to the base.

It looks like the part is called a spud ■■■■■■ or spud coupling: Sloan F-5-A Flushometer Spud Coupling Assembly for 3/4" Urinal Vacuum Breaker | KullySupply.com

I think just the angle of that one made it look different, but seems that the Regal one is the same as the one I’ve been trying to spot on Sloan’s website and other various places. So guess it’s the Regal Cover after all. Closest so far, will keep looking to find other companies and what they offer. Trying to see if there’s one with just a slight bit more curve before it goes flat.

Yeah. It certainly looks like it could be a chrome spud plate!

are there any buttons out there courrently in production that resemble the original Square D comp. switch?

Well it’s not a Sloan F-4-AU Royal 1.25" Spud Coupling and ■■■■■■:

I was just going to order one too… damn. Does the hole size look right? I always thought that the bottom base was a trim piece of sorts.

The 1.25" hole is too big but the overall diameter of the ■■■■■■ looks good.

so the all knowing jack is there any otehr switches out there resembling the original?

Stephen, the switch looks fine, it’s the “base” that isn’t right.

I think he was just looking for alternatives.

I think there are a few at McMaster-Carr that could be similar.. like part 9209K123 or 7403K29. Just search for “switch”.

If you don’t want exact then pretty much any industrial switch would do. I don’t really know how to answer your question? :whatever:

Thanks a million for the info jackdoud, mine came in the mail just the other day.

It looks like that in order to make the button itself screen accurate you have to unscrew the bottom ring, remove the rubber washer (otherwise the ring won’t sit low enough, plus it doesn’t seem to be there on-screen), and then reattach the ring upside-down.

The part that’s throwing me is that on Janine’s button, there appears to be a hole where the little metal peg, that keeps the rubber washer from spinning, should be. I was hoping that the peg was a separately machined part that could be removed but it appears to be molded to the base on mine.

Even more strange it that the peg on my button is chromed, where as yours appears to be brass. I’m not sure if the chrome coating has worn off on yours, or if I have a variant.

That’s how mine is, should be able to just pop it out. I’m guessing you have a variant.

Same here… mines brass

Yup, its a variant. I was hoping that the chrome peg was a separate piece after all, that was just attached very snuggly, but it was in fact molded to the base and I ended up chewing it up pretty badly with a pair of pliers.

I decided to cut it off with a hacksaw, which went surprisingly well, but it left a sharp nib. So I tried to carefully file that down… which ended up scuffing up the base of the button pretty badly.

At a later date I’m going to see if I can bore out the hole with a drill and polish up the base again with a Dremel (it doesn’t appear to be chrome plated after all, but the same color metal all the way through).

Oh well, I guess someone has to experiment with these things to save others from the hassle. :whatever:

i never noticed this thread. Last year while on my trip to mexico i was boarding a plane and spotted a similar switch… sorry for the blurry picture. And great find jack!

So I was poking through one of my local thrift stores today and came across this:

It’s a little large but for $1 I’m not complaning. Amazon has similar retractable clotheslines for about $10. Now I just have to clean off the stickers and mount the switch.

That looks pretty good!

It actually reminds me more of a light fixture base now. I’ll have to do some looking around and see what I can find.

Looking pretty sharp.

Has anyone found a better source than eBay? So far all of the closest matches have the inaccurate “half guard” on them, and a second closest match has a shipping price that’d be pricey if it turned out I couldn’t convert it with the button of another switch.

Jack… That looks pretty awesome man, great find. My switch is looking pretty lonely all alone on my desk… i might get one to keep it warm for a while until we find a closer match!
