The V71 Mark X ~ Fiberglass Shell

After this run, I recommend you leave your mold in the hands of someone that lives in a warmer climate.

I shot you an e-mail before I read this thread again, Flynn, but most of what I said still stands.

Also, we all understand that quality items come from people that take their time with them, not rush them out just to grind out a profit.

Why would he want to do that? He could just not do them in the winter. Simple solution.

He said he would be passing it on to a professional after this, because making fiberglass items isn’t easy to do from home.

Yep, after this initial run I hope to have a local fiberglass shop do the rest… That is assuming it’s not cost prohibitive I have already talked to them but have not really got a solid quote from them yet… If it’s cost prohibitive I will explore other options and if all else fails keep doing them myself…

I knew all along that winter was going to cause issues, just didn’t expect almost 2 weeks of sub zero weather…

Well that is different than giving the mold to someone in a warmer climate.

how is the forecast looking for this week flynn? It is still gonna be cold as shit in PA.

WED - FRI are looking decent, in the high 20s to low 30s during the day, I can work with that as long as it gets warm enough early enough, the low teens or single digits at night are not welcome…

Odds are many people this time of year couldn’t work on one themselves either. Its snowing here right now, and 26 outside.

Well that is good. Hopefully it works out for ya. Can you give us a hint as to how many you need to do?

Hey Flynn…nice work

perhaps a stupid question time…why is it called v71 mark x? or did you just sorta pick that name?

read the first post on this thread.

I did read it before I posted, but I just read it again…still not sure if I’m missing something but can’t see why you chose 71 or the mark X part. I understand you took a shell made by another to remake it, or improve it- thus a new version, or mark. I’m just guessing here that this may be your 71st redesign, or 10th(X) run of shells? I swear I’m not trying to be difficult!!!

More of a word twist then a strict revision…

V71 (venkman71)

Mark X (exoray)

Yup, this shell is derived from Venkman71’s pack. He was one of the men responsible for building Ernie Hudson’s pack.

ah! very clever. I may have gotten it had I known the names.

Forgive me if I’ve missed something here, but I noticed that the 1-1/4" tube is missing (and understandably so) from your buck. You know, the tube that the 3/4" loom connects to from the gearbox to the synchronous generator. Would you be willing to include a piece of 1-1/4" PVC cut to size with these preorders? Personally, I don’t need to worry about that, since I have a bunch of PVC pipes laying around from previous packs that I’ll likely never find a use for (until I build another pack). I only mention it because this will mean everyone will need to go out and buy a dowel or PVC pipe, which will mean a lot of materials could end up going to waste.

This isn’t the first time I’ve made it a point to “gripe” about that particular part. I know, it’s a trivial concern, but I just felt compelled to throw it up there . . . and also, I noticed I don’t have any 1-1/4" cylinders of any kind laying around ^_^;;;

Sounds like a not too bad idea. The pvc isnt expensive so I dont mind buying it, but there would be alot of waste here.

Well, an even better idea would be to make a resin cast of the part with the protruding 1/2" tube to attach the loom to. That way it’ll remain consistent with all the other resin parts you’ll be including with this.
