TheRealFVH NOOB Pack Build!

Hello Everyone!!!

My name is Frankie (or fvanhooser on here…TheRealFVH on other sites).

For a long time now I have wanted to build, create, and otherwise put together my own Ghostbusters Uniform and Pack.

This past September, I decided that it was long overdue!!!

So, I am starting this build thread. I would greatly appreciate any and all comments and suggestions.

Now, lets get this party started!

I started off by being lucky enough to get a pchrisbosh1 shell. It’s really a piece of artwork!


I got it last Wednesday, and no more than 1 hour after unboxing it, I painted it. pchrisbosh1 suggested a Rustoleum Flat Black. I would suggest getting a spray paint handle with trigger. It worked wonders. Rustoleum makes one that is about $6 bucks at Home Depot.



Fast forward to this past Sunday, when I got to put some work in on it. I decided to try my hand at mounting the shell to the MOBO. I cut a very long piece of of aluminum bracket scored from Home Depot. I cut it down to 2" long sections and drilled 3/4 inch holes in it.

In this pic…you can see one of the L-Brackets mounted and the holes cut for the other ones.

(Something I learned, next time I will make the bracket holes a little long…same size, but make the hole length a little long. For the reason that once I mounted it, some of the holes were a little off. It became very frustrating to re-drill the rivets and expand the holes. I will draw a picture of what is in my head and post it later…it that helps.)

After fixing it, I got the shell and brackets drilled and threaded.

That was all my patients could handle for a Sunday…so now we move on to today.

Today I worked on drilling a hole to fit the Loom into the pack.

I am currently working with a 3/4 split loom and some thick tubing (once I remember what the tubing size is, I will post it).

I used a 7/16 hole drill bit and then a dremel with a grinding attachment to smooth out and widen the hole a little.

That is all for today. I will post again once I work on some stuff for tomorrow!!!

Did you texture or is that texture in the shell?

That sounds like a great shell to work with, it’s going to be an awesome pack!

Sorry for the late reply Jay. Yep, as Grimmy said, it comes textured. Which is awesome because I dont think I have it in me to texture it. Maybe next build.

As promised, here is some more of my build!!!

So, the goal was to get it wearable for Halloween…

Tuesday (10-28) was a really easy day. I checked in with pchrisbosh1 on how he attaches the pack lenses. He suggested hot glue. So, HOT GLUE it was!!!

The lenses are holding up really good. That was Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday I didn’t have much work to do because I was waiting on the Matty version V-Hook I ordered from Franchesky which came on Halloween!!!

It was only out of the packaging for a few moments before I mounted it.

Marked the pack and drilled the holes!

I don’t know if I mentioned this, but I decided to build a Ghostbusters 2 pack because that is what my uniform is.

And here is it with the Matty wand (for now).

I was super excited to wear it on Halloween…but as I walked outside…it started to RAIN! Well damn! So I ware it in the house and garage a lot while we handed out candy to rain-soaked trick-or-treaters.

Next step, save up some money to order some more parts!

Hey everyone!!! Its been a few months since I last posted, so I though a small update was in order!

I hope everyones Holidays were good!!!

I have decided (probably not my best decision) to do all the hard stuff to the pack. That means next is…ELECTRONICS!!!

I have ordered a Heavy Props electronic kit!!! Once I get that! I will attempt to make a…VIDEO! Yay!!!

All suggestions and comments are welcomed and greatly appreciated!

HEY!!!

It’s been a while since I posted, sorry about that. Not much progress has been made. I am having a little trouble finding mounting hardware and making a final decision on how I want my electronics to go in the pack, but don’t worry…I think I am at a final decision and will start work in a week.

In the meantime, I got a N-Filter from FreekyGeeky that was just AMAZING!!! So I mounted it.

Painting was simple enough. I did hit a dripped patch where I had to sand it and re-paint, but nothing to big. The Mesh and red tape came out pretty good. I ordered the part cut to fit and the mounting plate welded in. I just had to do a little grinding to get it to fit snug to the pack.

I placed and taped off where the N-Filter should go. After using a few refference shots, I drilled two holes into the pack.

I then marked the two holes and the N-Filter through the pack, the drilled those holes.

Once I got the two screws and nuts in place, I mounted it!

It doesn’t look half bad! I think I might make the hole on the right a smige bigger so I can adjust how close it sits to the pack because right now, the right side (not pictured) doesn’t sit “completely” flush. But you would really have to look to notice. Also, I am going to invest in some wing nuts to put on the screws so that it’s easier to take off if I need to.

I have just ordered a bunch of parts from Nickatron and Momeraths24 and have a box of parts sitting in my garage. So, in about a week (when I should have more free time) it will be BUILDFEST 2015!!

Ok, So I know its been a while, but I have got a lot of work done on my pack!

This is the first box of parts I got from Franchesky. This one needed to be grinded down a little to fit.

After I got that part ready, I then scanned all the parts to make mounting templates.

I used an AWL to make the holes for the template. That way, once I put the template on the pack, I used the AWL to make where the holes should go.

It wasn’t no time till I got the pack drilled and parts mounted.

Then painted…

Next, I got the ■■■■■ to mount the electronics. I had to use a craft board for the lights because my original board broke. But, I got everything mounted and working great!!!

Now, I got a bumper and resister set from Nick-a-tron and then found a small tap and hex bolts to fit the resistors on the side of the ion arm. That way, I didn’t have to screw with any glue.

After painting the bumper, I mounted it with the shock mount from gbfans.com!

Now, the last box of parts ordered from Crix and all I have to do is paint and mount! (once I get my home office redone…)

Hey everyone!

A few weeks ago, before my personal life got super busy (in a good way), I finished my Proton Pack!!!

There wasn’t too much I had to do. I had a grip of parts from Crix that I had to paint, but first I drilled and tapped all the holes for the parts with the standard 1/4" #20 screws and washers.

I did drill a couple of mistake holes in the injectors, but luckily it was on the mounting bracket and once that got painted, you can’t even notice it. The hardest part was mounting the Booster Tube. I may have the middle (of 3) holes off center a smidge, but it all fit together nicely.

Other than the Booster Tube having to get repainted, I think they all came out pretty good!!!

It was at this point that I didn’t take many more pictures of the assembly process. I got way to excited to mount everything. Once everything got mounted, I had my wife put on the last few stickers and dedicated a wall in our office to my pack. Here it is finished!

It was time to put the full uniform and pack on.

Building this has been an awesome experience. Thanks for everyone on the forms for the encouragement and all the sellers for making this dream a reality!

Now, on to…building the wand!!!
