Throwing my hat in the ring.

Wow, those look perfect! Price is a bit prohibitive, though… :-/

Yeah, but if your not super concerned about accuracy I found some sellers on ebay selling the 7 and 6 inch diameter for around $40-$50.

Small update, painted the pump boxes.

After doing some searching around I found a seller on ebay that was selling 9inch plastic post covers, Picked it up for $50. It’s sturdy and doesn’t weigh a thing, I’m sure that can change once it’s on my back.

Nice find man!! Have you done any painting on it yet? I’ve always been kinda wary of the plastic used for those things, like if they’ll even take paint well. If it does, that will pretty much be perfect!

Not yet, I’ll do a test with some primer tomorrow morning and post pics. I still have to cut it to length and find another dome. But after that it’s on to the smaller tanks.

One thing that may work is vinyl dye from your local auto hobby shop. I use the same stuff to restore color to old yellowed LEGOs.

You may find that plastic material will not hold paint easily, it sometimes excretes an oily film which is to protect it from UV rays since they are used outside and are exposed to the weather 24/7. But there may be a process you can use to get good adhesion.

Might want to try a small test piece first or even take it to an automotive paint shop for suggestions.

Well, I did a primer test. I used krylon gray plastic primer fist.

It came out well and it dried without any hassles. The only problem is that there is a pin hole pattern to the plastic.

Im going to the auto parts store tomorrow to see if I can find a primer with a filler. Luckily this isn’t a priority project. At the moment I’m preoccupied with my new pack build.

A high build auto primer should fill the pinholes

Im going to check tomorrow for a high end auto primer. I did another test using plain rust-oleum auto primer and it didn’t really take. It dried well but it can be scratched off easily.

You want to use Bulldog adheasion promoter.. it can be found online and in your local automotive paint distr. Just do the homework and you will see its just what you need…I know from exp.

After more than a year it’s time to bring this thread back from the dead. After taking some time off from building Ghostbusters related props I’m diving back in with the slime blower.

First I got a hold of another 9 inch post cover for the main tank.

I then got the measurements for the main tank then started my cutting.

Cutting the second piece.

Taped them together to see if anything needs to be adjusted.

Then I had to figure out how to secure both ends together. I cut six, 8 inch long pieces of steel and drilled them out to be pop riveted in place once I figured out my placement.

The holes were drilled into the plastic and then the rivets were sunk in.

The steel plates are now in place inside the first piece.

Joining both ends together.

One of the post covers was about 1/4 wider then the other so after both ends were joined I had some over hang that had to be cut. I will go into detail on this in my next post.

I was just wondering how you were going to attach the two parts of the main tank. Nicely done!

i like this approach to the main tank!! might go this route if i decide to upgrade my concrete tube.
