And your idea for a stickied flightsuit thread is an idea I have been toying with for a while now. I even have a draft written up and saved, a non-biased (even though I personally dislike Rothco) thread showing side-by-side comparisons of all the major suit brands and links to the best places to buy them.
Soon my friend, soon
Oh and props to you for going the tru-spec route, you wont be disappointed
I read around the “uniforms” forum and found a general dislike of the quality of the Rothco. Nomex is a bit out of my price range (and I don’t feel like waiting for a cheap Nomex to pop up on Ebay). And I do like the fact that I wouldn’t have to dye a Tru Spec due to it being such a light beige.
This is going to be my first uniform. I’ve wanted make a some type of costume from a movie I like (I wanted to make a Stormtrooper, but the new GB game pushed me to here!).
I’m probably just going to make a full uniform (Flight suit, belt, elbowpads, and boots for now), for an “off-duty” look. Eventually, I’ll make some Paragoggles, a PKE meter, and maybe make or buy a Proton Pack.
Nearly forgot to thank you for your answer! Thanks.
Hey yeah no problem, a Tru-Spec is a great alternative and also does not need to be dyed. You wont find Tru-Spec suits very often on eBay so you’ll have to get one from a place like Galls or US Cavalry. i personally recommend Galls. Go there and search item JS004 to find the tru-specs.
The Nomex suits you are seeing are brand new ones and they run from $120-$200, however if you search properly on eBay you will find cheap nomex suits. Use different combinations of the words Flight, suit, desert, and tan and you will get a nice selection of inexpensive nomex suits.
I’m almost exactly the same size as AlyxanderWilliams and thought a XL-long would work. I figure the XXL-long would be more for someone big in the chest area. BTW I wear a 43-44L jacket. 6’3", 215 lbs. is on the slender side. I also was looking at the Tru-Spec flight suits. BTW I know Rothco’s merchandise can be kinda cheap. I used to sell their stuff a few years back when I used to live on Long Island near their HQ.
whats the matter with a rothco? ive had mine for 10 years with out any problem.
on another note, im looking at a new one, because i want to retire this, keep it safe because its apart of my teenhood. my rothco’s a medium, and im thinking about a truespec small. im 5’10" and thin.
rothcos are made from thin, cheap material and the tailoring on them is sub-par. The chest pockets are not angled or placed properly, more specifically on the larger sizes, the zippers are not brass and the suit lacks the storm flap like the movie ones had. Tru-Spec has brass zippers, a storm flap and great tailoring. Best of all is that it does not need to be dyed.
