Hi everyone. I need some sizing help and have searched all over the forums and cannot find a definitive answer. I need to buy a new flight suit and today tried on a Rothco XXXL and the issue was I just barely didn’t have enough room to stop me from getting a wedgie. I am 6’ but am all torso (I have a 29-30" pant length) would the TRU-Spec XXL long or the XXXL give me the added body length I need? I’m fine if I have to have leg and arm length altered, as long as I can sit down without my suit getting very personal.
Also for the hose connector I see a gray and a brownish one available in the shop here. Which one is more accurate for GB1? I’m having a hard time telling from the images I have looked at.
Thanks!
Easy answer first, gb1 used the brown connector and yellow hose. Gb2 used the grey connector and clear hose.
For the suits. I have a nomex and I have a truspec that I have died to the charcoal colour. I’m 5’11". The nomex I got was the long version and it fits great in the body. The truspec which was also the long, splits me right up the middle, just slightly too small in body length, arm length, and leg length. It has been washed, stripped, and dyed, but I think that that even a truspec once you wash it is going to shrink up a bit.
Is this just a once in a blue moon thing or are you a ■■■■■■■■ cosplayer and are going to be spending long periods of time and many days at events in a uniform? I ask because if you are looking at this as an investment, you may want to consider a suit direct from Gibson and Barnes. They do make suits to custom sizes. There is a caveat to this though, sometimes they say they will make custom suits and sometimes not. You may be able to get around that by saying you want a standard option suit just need a custom size, without any of the changes for the GB style suit (there are threads in these options already), and don’t mention Ghostbusters when you order and you may be able to do it that way. Keep in mind, these suits are not cheap, and they take time to be made. BUT if this is an investment, this might be the way you want to go.
Just some thoughts. There are some threads in alternate suit ideas too for taller gents who like some more room. I’m sure someone will mention it, I’m not sure what they are.
Thanks for the reply. Just looking for a basic costume right now, not anything crazy. I’d like to start out with something basic and put more money into my eventual pack than suit and maybe upgrade as I go. I currently have a XXL Rothco that used to fit okay, but still had the body length issues. Thanks to many years of a desk job I need a bigger size and I thought I’d see if better options were available in terms of body length.
The XXL Rothco fits me in every way but the body length. Does the Long on the Tru-Spec add length to the body or just the arms and legs? I couldn’t find a denfinitive answer. Some said it did and some said it didn’t.
I can’t tell you the difference on body length between rothco and truspec, but all I can say is if your 6’, the truspec isn’t going to be baggy in the body length. I prefer my nomex ones for that.
Is there a surplus store you can try one on before buying? That’s probably the best bet.
Thanks! No one near me has the Tru-Fit only the Rothco. I guess I’ll have to find a online seller that takes returns. I appreciate your input and getting back to me.
Just in case anyone comes across this thread and has the same issue I did I can say after trying a Rothco and Tru-Spec that the tru-spec by far has a better fit in the body for those with long torsos. The Rothco I couldn’t even sit down in without risking ripping out the crotch. The Tru-spec fits perfectly!
