Hey peeps, me again! After slobbering over Kingpins’ Sniffer pics, I decided to finally make me a sniffer!
Wanted a lot of metal as the box is obviously plasticy!

I found a small pistol case on eBay that matched fairly closely to the Bacharachs’ specs. Search for ‘small pistol case’ and you’ll find it.
I also used Kingpins’ pics and a couple of others to draw up labels.

Note: Sorry- not posting labels as I think Ben may have that covered way better than mine! ! Besides, they were his pics. ![]()
I printed them with a (black toner) laser printer onto foil sticker paper, then laid clear self-adhesive plastic film (book covering vinyl?) over it to protect the ink, as it scratches very easily. Gives the shiny chrome foil a nice ‘brushed’ metal appearance.
Stuck these onto thin card, then double-stick taped to the pistol case after painting around the edges silver. Little big, but does the job.
Hose fittings are co-ax ‘pig’ plug and sockets (like those on cable boxes, etc). Black hose will was stripped from a couple of SCART leads, instead of surgical tubing.
Pump was purchased from Westons.com as two peices, as I wanted a metal valve.

Probe was made from 30" of 8mm aluminium tube with a co-ax plug on the end with a threaded pig fitting glued inside it.
Painted the tube black (I figured, as the pump tube was black, I’d go for a Darth Vader all-black look!).
Added bonus is that the tubing can easily be removed from the case, the probe, and the bulb.

Probe fitting and strap buckle:

Side knobs are a co-ax plug ‘cap’ andpart of the SCART lead end, with a button. Glued and bolted down.

Side socket is part of a small switch dissassembled.

The 1" black nylon webbing shoulder strap has two metal buckles to alter the length, and I cut slots and added bolts through the case to hold the strap, rather than D-ring brackets.
Added the trigger into the handle, and as I was doing that, figured I may as well make it do something! So I added a switch, and wired up a couple of AA batteries to a flashing 5mm red LED on the front.

Display is a printout, but I’m not 100% happy with it, so may replace it later - as it’s just held on with velcro, that won’t be a problem!

Why velcro? Well, I can still open the case to change out the batteries, and snack storage. That *might *be a joke, I’m not sure yet! ![]()
Love to hear your comments!
Later,
coz.
