I’ve been working on this EGB inspired PKE meter for about a week now. It’s nowhere near ready to show off, so I probably shouldn’t even be talking about it. But, here it goes!
first off–some of the materials I’ve gathered to create this PKE, this will help newbies see all the resources is takes to complete such a project.
I’m using a shoebox cut down to make the body. Thinking ahead, I plan on having the lid come off so I can add lights and a sound kit, oh and servos too, for motion.
In this pic things are really moving along. I’d guess I’m about 6 or 7 days into the build, which puts it at about 35-40 man hours. I’ve taped the view shield thing on and have a general placement for the dials. I hope you like this, more to come later!
Wait, what’s that white stuff on the cardboard tube? That’s not in your first picture. I don’t have access to all these specialist tools and materials, is there a generic and easily available alternative to whatever it is?
Only if it makes it 100% screen accurate. I’m really anal about that..
I’m going to start a run list and start taking orders. I have no money, so people will have to pay up front, and then wait till I can make it and send it to them. I need money to go buy materials.
I’m using really cheap paint, so probably.
Dude, I haven’t even gotten to that part yet. This is what happens when people get ahead of themselves. It’s important to follow along closely, because this is really one of those props intended for advanced builders.
Ha! no that’s just good ole’ masking tape! excellent question, And I’m embarrassed that I didn’t include that in my first pic, I wanted this to be a flawless tutorial.
As I was saying earlier, I’m going to have to put this project on the back burner for a while because I don’t have the money to continue this build right now…Sorry to disappoint you guys, but I’ll get back to it as soon as I get some cash.
I hate to see this build end before it really gets it’s start. How about we all take up a collection to help fund it? Whaddya say guys? Let’s help a fellow buster out.
Foos perhaps you could bake cookies and have a bake sale/puppet show at your local church?

I for one am going to contact the owner of “Mootsies Tootsies” and see if I can get them to sponsor you. Hell maybe we’ll get really lucky and they’ll even send us some free shoeboxes. That will reduce the cost of having to cast them.

I did suffer a set back, accidentally stepped on it and spilled some nachos on the pke, causing extensive damage. I almost threw it away, but then I realised I can just say it’s battle damaged.
This can be selling feature when I start the run list- buyers can pay more for custom battle damage, and tell people like “Yeah this part here were the side is completely caved-in happened during a battle with a class 27 roaming vapor rub.”
Here are some more funds for you to complete the meter. I have sent them to you via the internet and all you should need do is hit print.

Well, with all this pke madness going on with Mattel’s movie pke, I decided it was time to get back in the saddle and show some updates. At first glance, these look identical to Ghost Guy’s pke build, but I assure you guys that this is completely my creation.
Quite a bit of progress. I think I really nailed the buttons and knobs on the pke. once painted, it’ll look so accurate.
If you look closely, you can see I’m using a very high-grade cardboard tube.. it’s very thick. no cheap products were used in this build.
Believe it or not, this is my favorite pic so far. When you open up the hood, you can get a real sense of the possibilities here. Think of all the cool electronics you could cram in there. There’s way more space than mattel’s build, so there’s just a lot more you can do here.
This one is really cool, notice the electricity between the antennae? Think again bucko! That’s nothing more than ordinary wire from a spiral note book!
It’s looking really good thus far, and I haven’t even gotten to the paint yet. If you guys have any feedback, let’s hear it!
