Upgrading my scratchbuilt pack. **Finished**

Hello, thank you for looking.

After over five years of lurking on the forum I’m pleased to say that my pack is now complete.

It took about three weeks to put together but weeks of planning.

It’s not 100% movie accurate but I think I’ve done a good job with what I had to work with.

The Cyclotron, lights and lenses are from JT94 (thank you) and the hat lights and majority of the tubing is from Nick-a-tron (thank you).

Everything was built using the plans from the site, the bumper was easily the trickiest. I made a block of foamboard about 5 sheets thick and glued it together. Once it was dry I carved it out using the bumper plans from Stefan’s plans.

Here is what I used. Lots of foamboard/foamcore, dense insulation foam and some PVC tubing.

I haven’t added a heatsink to the thrower yet, this is made almost entirely from foamboard. The scrolling light is a painted cable tie. The lights are activated from a switch here.

I plan to upgrade a few parts as time goes on but still very pleased with how it turned out. First on the list a proper V hook.

Nicely done! Having built a foam pack I can attest to hard it is to get them look good and you have really nailed it.

I’ve decided to spend some time working on the pack as there are a few things that I’m not really happy with.

The black I initially used looks too grey for my liking so I’ll repaint it.

I will also replace the labels to more accurate ones and swap out some of the scratchbuilt parts for replica ones.

The biggest thing I’ll be changing is replacing the wand for a replica one.

I look forward to posting the updates as they happen.

Starting the new year with a shiny new part for my pack.

Although metalwork isn’t my strongpoint I somehow managed to make a V hook.

I looked out metal of the correct width to make everything only to find out the metal I had for the male hook was some sort of indestructible steel.

I couldn’t bend it and none of my saws even made a scratch on it.

Thankfully Sam Mitchell of the Minnesota Timberwolves came to my rescue. This was an insert from the Skybox Molten Metal series, it was a little thinner than the bit I would have liked to use but worked really well.

I’m now in the process of removing all the parts I intend to replace, my poor pack is in a sorry state but I’m sure it will be worth it.

I have been quietly at work finishing my upgrades and it’s finally done.

It’s not based on any pack in particular, I just went with what I thought looked best.

I replaced a lot of the small pieces I had originally made with cast pieces and where possible original parts. The majority of the upgraded pack parts came from Nick-a-tron who was also kind enough to throw in a much needed set of new labels (thank you).

The thrower is a bit of a hybrid, the body is aluminium and some of the heavier metal parts have been swapped for lighter parts from Nick-a-tron’s thrower kit.

The thrower has lights from Jupiter and the pack also has the Ghostlabs Pack Blaster amplified soundboard.
