Usual Beings...

A friend and I have been working on a new social networking site, called Usual Beings. We would love to hear your thoughts on how we can improve the site. We are still in beta, so not everything is completed.

You’re going the wrong direction.

Myspace allowed you to share videos, games, upload music, post blogs etc. It RULED until facebook allowed non college students to join, then everyone switched.

Facebook does not allow you to customize your background and music. If you have a seperate artist page you can have SOME stuff, but no ready playlist for when people visit your page. The options of sharing with the general visitors to your page vs to specific people are limited. And FB PWNED till Twitter came along…

Twitter pretty much only allows a status update and a background choice. It is a great example of the shrinking attention span of Americans.

Your absolutely right… it does seem like the attention span of Americans is shrinking at an alarming rate.

We really don’t want to be a facebook, myspace, or twitter… Even though we have elements of those sites, we just want to be useful to people.

Our direction with Usual Beings is mainly to help make people’s lives a little easier. We want to offer a lot of different services to people in one location. Whether it be keeping in touch with people (through , IM, Chat, Blog, or Streaming Video chat),Organizing their daily lives (via to-do lists, reminders, file upload, etc) The graphical system is due to change as we get more of our back end stuff settled.

Good on you guys for having a go I say.

Its not the attention span.

Its about quality.

Twitter took one thing and did it to the best quality that they could.

Facebook started out with one or two things and expanded with great programming and layout at its core. (They had the framework and design in place).

MySpace just added stuff on… and on and on.. until the site was unuseable. Half the pages with music and backgrounds were impossible to navigate. I remember 5+ years ago about not being able to find anything on MySpace because it was all so cluttered.

Myspace now =

A cluttered, inoperable mess that lags my computer to the point of no use.

Lol, so important safety tip… Don’t clutter beyond the point of what is absolutely needed.

We really appreciate the advice so far, we really want to make UsualBeings the best site we possibly can, and we cant do that without all of you.
