It was stated in the movie that it’s a self portrait.
Vigo painted, and then used his magic to put his spirit into it, presumably once he finally died.
The ruined castle his disembodied head appears in is presumably his. The towers seen in the “full body” version appear to be a town/city he’s pillaged, slaughtered and set aflame.
What I always wanted to know is how Aykroyd came up with him and his back story. Also was he always intended as the main villain or how would he come into play say if Dana didn’t come back and they had a different female lead. I read somewhere that they already had a replacement character if Sigourney Weaver didn’t come back, I also read that Oscar was originally intended as Dana’s and Venkman’s son.
Whenever I think of an actor you could have played :angryvigo: if Von Homburg hadn’t, I think of Alexander Godunov. Take a look at him, you’ll see what I mean.
Dude when I was little I would actually get him and Von Homburg mixed when I would watch Die Hard. My mom would always point out anything GB related in any movie, tv, show, commercial, ect and when she told me Vigo came out thats when I would get them confused. I was only 4 the first time I saw Die Hard.
