Vigo's defeat and how it could have been different

We all know that Vigo got his powers from the river of slime beneath the city, we all know that. But what I find mildly interesting is that Vigo is just a ghost, well the ghost of a deceased magician but still he was just a ghost. His spirit was trapped inside the painting and I think that the last words he spoke before he died: Death is but a door, time is but a window. I’ll be back. Was a curse or a spell of some kind that allowed Vigo’s spirit to attach itself to the painting (I believe the painting already existed when Vigo was still alive, I could be wrong of course)

And thus Vigo’s evil spirit survived because it was able to dwell inside the painting for a long time. Vigo’s painting started to come alive when it was brought out of storage, but at that time the slime underneath the streets of NY was already building. So Vigo had to wait until all the hate and ■■■■■■ behaviour of New Yorkers reached a critical point. And I know that I’m just saying stuff that everyone here knows but now comes the part where it goes different.

My theory on how they could have defeated Vigo goes like this. Vigo couldn’t escape from the painting not until the slime reaches critical mass and so when the Ghostbusters visit the museum to check out Vigo’s painting and they find evidence of PKE energy. What if right there, when Egon says to Peter “the whole room is extremely hot” Egon and Winston grab their throwers and tell everyone to leave the building. Of course this doesn’t include Pete nor Ray as they both stick around to watch it happen. And so with their throwers on full stream, they blast Vigo’s painting and destroy it. We know the beams can hurt Vigo, so they blast the painting and Vigo can only shoot evil energy through his eyes or appear as a headless phantom. So when he does appear as the headless phantom, they’ll blast his ugly head and bye bye Vigo.

In theory this could work because Vigo wasn’t as strong as he would have been when the slime has reached its full potential. So they could have destroyed him like that. Any comments are welcome and please share your opinions with me, I am curious to hear from everyone here at gbfans!

Your forgetting half the movie and the most important element.. the Slime Blower.

I’m sorry but, nope doesn’t pan out for me.

Why didn’t they just walk behind the painting, pull the staples out of the canvas frame and roll him up?

So simple yet…

Throw him in a van and take him to a happier, less slime-infested city then bonfire :P.

What about Vigo’s depression due to kitten loss?

STAY AWAY FROM HIS KITTEN!

Nah man…Spengler & Stantz’s work on the (positively charged mood slime) was a big help on the defeat of Vigo.Plus i think when they first went there they just wanted readings on what they was dealing with…plus the photos Venkie took was a big help as Spengs & Stantz put 2 and 2 together and found out there was a connection with Vigo & The Slime. And on there inspection of Vigo i think if they went in there just blasting up the place i think things could have been way worse than being put in a (psychiatric hospital) :whatever:

Well answer me this, could they trap Vigo ? Since he was just a ghost with magical powers, could they trap him ? Because considering that Vigo was nothing more than a dead magician who was lucky enough to build his strength upon the river of slime, if he had no such thing, no river of slime would they be able to trap him ? Because take away all his headless floating and eye blasting powers, he’s just a simple ghost.

:whatever: It’s nothing more than a theory…but yeah, you make a good point i would say it could have been possible in his (demon form) :angryvigo: but at the end of the film when Stantz gets possessed they was more concerned with just getting rid of him ASAP…lol i don’t know.

He’s not a ghost.

HE IS VIGO! YOU ARE LIKE THE BUZZING OF FLIES TO HIM!

Say Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat???

When he appears as a headless phantom, they should blast his head.

they should have just done what they did in the video, keep shooting him where it hurts!

To be fair, they had no idea of a haunted painting other than “the nice lady who paid them in advance before she turned into a dog” whining about how the painting watches her. I think they chalked that up as past life trama intruding on present time.

They also are PKE scanning her kid too so how many times can they really be ready to believe her before an eyebrow starts to lift. A bath tub tried to eat you AND your baby? C’mon lady! Really…? Lol
