I looked for one of these for ever “for sale” and can’t find one… I think my quest.. Well.. I am giving up…
ok, I know that there are going to be people here who are going turn this into a joke-fest, but lets be kind as it is this person’s first post. But to answer your question, yes…the ECTO-1 was a 59 mm. as I’m not a huge history buff on the 59 mm, I do know that it was both an ambulance and a hearse.
What’s a herse? Better yet what’s an amubulance? Is that Japanese ? French? 
j/k I believe it was a 1959 Cadillac ambulance but I’m not the resident Ecto expert, maybe someone else will chime in to answer accurately.

Those cars are hard to get. You might be able to get one around the year like in the 70’s or 60’s.
I believe it was a 1959 Cadillac Miller Meteor Limousine Style Ambulance/Hearse Combination End Loader. Now as to if the actually GB1 car was previously an ambulance or a hearse? I don’t know. More than likely because it was a combo and could be used for both, it probably was used as both an ambulance and a hearse. A lot of funeral home back in the day were the “ambulance services” as well. But I personally don’t have those kind of facts on the old girl.
And yeah, they are hard to find. There were less than 2600 made (I believe) of that type all the way back in 1959, so add a few decades makes them a rare find indeed. I lucked out myself and found one, so don’t lose hope man.

Yeah, it’s a real 1959 Cadillac Miller Meteor Limousine Style Ambulance/Hearse Combination End Loader. I’m in the process of buying it off a really nice guy right now. The guys is nice enough to take payments, so I REALLY lucked out. Plus he’s just a super cool guy in general. I do have pics (plenty of them, trust me

I found a 59 caddy kind of by accident. I was going through my moms friends junk yard ( he owns a towing company) looking for parts and all of a sudden I see these fins in the brush. after clearing it out it was a 59 mm. All I could say was Holy S*** :shock:
how lucky does one get??? seriously, I would kill for that kind of luck…now, to be on the more realistic side…I’m almost sure that that caddy was in some serious need of repair…but thats not the point. I want your luck
If I have $50,000 and the money to upkeep the car, I may just go for the 70’s version because I heard the parts for the 59 is quite expensive.
what motor is in the Ecto??
If the 59 combo motor was the same as the non-commercial chassis cars it was a 390 cubic inch 325 horsepower V8.
The caddy I saw was in rough shape , but if I could get the money together and find a garage big enough to hold it I would in a second…I should buy it anyway lol
