What's with all the Necro-Posting?

I know I’m not the only one who’s noticing that people are resurrecting threads from 2006 and beyond around here…

What’s the deal people? Is it supposed to be some sort of joke, or do you actually think that there are enough active topics on the site to fill up 8 pages (or more, as surely you had to go back that far to find some of these)?

What’s the deal?

I doubt anyone is going to post an answer here as to why they are doing it. They will just use this thread to post random images, boxxy videos, and drawings of a unicorn ■■■■■■■ a dog.

I’m gonna bump this thread 4 years from now.

Is Necro-posting a crime? As far back as I can remember ( and I’m pretty old and prone to memory loss and erectile dysfunction ) it has always been more preferable to continue to post in a thread that was ON TOPIC rather than start up the same damned topic over and over. One thread about “Who sells V-Hooks?” would be fine, I don’t need 400 even if there are various sellers. Does necro-posting hurt something other than an individuals personal set of values for netiquette?

Agreed with fifthrider ^^^

yeah, its lose lose either way, someone bitches that a new topic is made and they didnt search for it, or someone bitches that an old topic is brought up.

mind you, id rather see an old topic brought back with something more than “yeah!” and id rather see a new topic, because information gets old.

Yeah, quit spamming and contribute.

Like BigJon and Doctor Venkman here.

They’re always contributing.

…and making quality posts.

I look at it this way

Step one: Search for the topic you wanna discuss

Did it

A) Appear in the list

B) Not

if A:

Check the following and answer yes or no

Is the majority of the information still up to date or worthwhile?

Would your post be worthwhile?

Did the thread stay on topic and could still be continued on topic or brought back on topic?

Is this thread an open discussion and not just a single user seeking something and found it?

Are the images (if there are any), users, and content still: viewable, around, or usable?

If you answered yes to at least 4 of the 5 questions go ahead and post in this topic despite of age

B) I did not find a topic in my search:

Then please do the following

  1. Check the forum your topic would of most likely been in and check the first two pages at least to make sure the search didn’t miss it.

  2. Make sure it isn’t something already part of the site the forum is hosted on

After that feel free to post.

Thread “necro” isn’t a bad thing if it is done properly

Yeah!

I would contribute more if everyone here weren’t such asshats.

I was commending you on your positive contributions.

Hard to tell with so many posts on the forum laced with sarcasm. So if you were being sincere, then thank you.

I’m never sarcastic.

I’d been given the impression that necroposting was not a thing to be encouraged.

The thing to keep in mind is, whilst there are some topics that are the exception to the “necroposts are bad” vibe, if a topic’s gone four years without a new post until someone necroposts it, maybe there’s a reason it didn’t get a update for so long.

Sorry, this was the closest I could find.

Enchanting

it put it in the wrong hole!

I have always been under the impression that necro posting was just bringing up old posts without contributing anything new or relevant. This thread in itself pretty useless as a complaint thread which we’ve had in spades lately. Why people insist on complaining about a site they visit more often than they shit is beyond me.

you ask so much of people that complain about the comic books, figures, and game.
