My theory: Gozer entered Earth in '84 in either it’s real form as the chick, or that was the LAST form it took when it raised Hell, and had not yet had the chance to gain a new form on Earth because the Ghostbusters pestered it right out of the (dimensional) gate.
Real form = explaination for Shandor holding the obvious skull of Slavitzva Jovan’s Gozer.
Last form = Would technically have to be Stay Puft, or whatever form it took most recently when destroying some other dimension.
Maybe the humanoid form is Gozers form when on the other side and when it fully enters our world as the destroyer it needs to take on another form. So if Shandor killed Gozer on the other side that would explain the skull.
If you refer to vigo… I’m sure that the whole idea was to generate as much supernatural activity as possible to give him the power he needed to do what he did, so while Vigo may not have been directly intended by shandor, he was amongst the vast array of paranormal activity in NY that Shandor could use for his orchestrations.
Vigo thought he could use all this stuff to his own advantage, but ultimately he was riding the coat tails of Shandor for a time, before he got his oil-painted backside handed to him.
What I didn’t understand was why Gozer in the form of Stay Puft was looking for Illysa Selwyn. By looking for her, it was helping Shandor. At that point in the story, Shandor was still worshipping Gozer. It was only after Gozer failed a second time that Shandor decided to use the mandala for himself instead. It would have made more sense to have Gozer as Stay Puft looking for the Ghostbusters.
Perhaps at that point Shandor was helping Gozer to become more powerful so he would reap the benefits of some of that power. Everything he did up to that point was really to benefit Gozer so he would be in good graces with him/her and reap the benefits of helping a powerful god. The original intent of the mandala could’ve been to help Gozer become more powerful, but seeing Gozer fail in his/her task TWICE to the Ghostbusters he realized it was better to become a god than to worship one that can’t get the job done.
yep, i bet that was the general idea, but why kidnap illyssa if only shandor needed his own bloodline for a destructor form unless thats what the ritual was for…illyssa was ging to be used in the ritual to give gozer more power and a new destructor form and shandor hijacked it for himself after gozer failed… and he potentially sacked the sumerian god of destruction… seeing “himself” fit to be the destructor that gozer failed to be.
Yeah I was pretty sure Illyssa was needed for Shandor to become a God. Gozer didn’t need Illyssa; all Gozer needed was the Mandala or an equivalent energy source.
