HI all, so this past week I was able to win a lot of 4 MT500 Radios, for 10 bucks plus 15 shipping, 25 Total. I thought score. I could tell from the lot that there was some differnces between them, but I thought, one of them has to be the right one.
You can see some are thicker than the others. It seems that the 2 chan version is the rightr size, but has the incorrect knob configuration and the the 8 chn versions are too tall. What do you guys think? Should I hack them up and try to cobble one to look like the correct version, or is it too small of detail to care.
That’s a pretty good deal for four radios. In terms of accuracy, I’d say the one third from the right is the closest. There were a few differences among the screen-used radios (such as Ray using an HT-220, etc.). If I recall correctly, one of the radios (Venkman or Egon) might have been a taller version.
Thansk for the info. I came across that thread too, and it does seem that the smaller one is the correct one. But I need the 3 knob configuration. I may just take the 8chn ones apart and put them with the small ones.
However, if you want to go the MT-500 route, you need the short model MT-500 with a three knob configuration and blue label if you want to be accurate. Otherwise, the models you have will do just fine and nobody will be the wiser… unless they are me.
I say I dont care for accuracy then I go crazy over things like this. I need help.
I was really questioning the size differnce. Almost every Tut that I have come accross, shows only the TALL versions of the 3 knob version. The best way to tell is the gap between the litle clear box area underneath the Freq info sticker in the back. You can see what I am talking about on the 3rd pic I posted of all the units.
Cany anyone produce a picture of a un-modified 3 KNob radio that is the small version? I really want to make sure we have checked out all MT-500 for this. I know there was some debat as to which was actaully used in another thread. Right now my theory is that there was NO short 3 knob config, (as every pic I see shows tha larger one) (even in the GB Fans Spilled Milk episode) but with so many versions of the MT-500, we just dont know. If someone could produce a small 3 knob radio with pics of the Back and side, (so we can count the ridges in the frame) we can get this issue nailed down and add this info to the Wiki Site. The Info on wiki for the MT-500 is very vauge, considering how many verisons of the MT-500 are out there.

It was also discussed in a previous thread that the correct model is the 3 channel UHF version which are the two on the right in the pictures above. I included the link to that thread below to help you out in your quest.
