Which Wand Light Board to Go With

Hey guys,

Sorry if some of these questions have been answered before, but I’m wondering what some of your opinions are. I’m looking into building my first wand. I’m going to order ThrowingChicken’s amazing gun kit.

My question is what sound/light kits are the best in terms of future expandability, ease of use, and screen accuracy. I should preface this with I’m not looking to start a bunch of angry posts on whose is better than whose. I’m on a bit of a budget, and have spent some time collecting some parts for the wand. I’m at the point where I’d like to order a light kit for the wand as well.

The GBFans board looks pretty sweet to me, and it has the option of me expanding to a lights, and a sound board in the pack in the future so thats a must. I don’t want to invest in a board for a wand that I have to jerry rig something to use with the pack down the road.

I’ve also heard good things about Heavy Props’s boards. I can’t seem to find a lights kit separately from him, and I can’t justify buying the whole lights and sounds kit for the pack and wand right now.

Am I missing anything? I’d like to be as screen accurate as possible without spending a small fortune, so I’m currently leaning towards the GBFans board. Has anyone used the GBFans board with ThrowingChicken’s kit? I saw a post somewhere from AJ that said they have new switches that will fit his kit, and I’ve read from numerous people that you need to use micro switches to fit. I’m assuming the board doesn’t some with micro switches then?

Any insight you guys have would be great.

I currently use the gbfans kit in my thrower. It’s the easiest kit I have ever used as it is really plug-n-play and takes only one ribbon cable to connect to the gbfans sound board. I used a mighty microcontroller for my last build which, while nice, is REALLY complicated and the seller is blacklisted so yeah, no go there.

I personally haven’t used used either the heavy props kit but I do bear good things. I believe there is some extra DIY involved with those but the gbfans board can pretty much interface with any light kit if I am not mistaken.

I have both the Heavy Props and GBfans kits in my packs and I have to say the GBfans one is hands down, the easiest one to install. The Heavy Props one will need an amp to make it loud enough so there’s another expense. GBfans board is already amplified and stupid loud when you use the correct speakers.The other thing is (I really don’t wish to speak badly about the kit here) the wires he uses are VERY small. If you have large mitts for hands (this guy) the wires are super difficult to put into place.

That’s good to hear! Just a question, which one are you saying has small wires, the GBFans, or the Heavy Props? I do have large hands but I’m not too concerned about it.

Thanks for the video! Your build looks amazing. I’m definitely leaning towards the GBFans one now. I’d love to do a full metal build but I’m thinking the kit is a cheaper way to go.

Anyone have any input on the micro switches?

As for the micro’s: if you are using ThrowingChickens kit, get the micro’s. I believe his kit was the inspiration for the micro’s actually.

Prop Forge kits are still available for the thrower and they’re easily combined with all major sound kits.

The Heavy Props kit has the small wires. GBfans kit is a literal plug and play set up, no screwing wires to any boards (minus speakers and power in).

Prop forge is pretty easy as well. Looks like just screw terminals instead of plugs. His kits are really nice and I BELIEVE some of the most screen accurate.

Thanks for the info. They look pretty simple, but at almost twice the price I’m still leaning towards the GBFans. Ia preciate you posting it though.
