Migrating over here and starting an account - I got linked here lo those many moons ago from a member at SciFiHero.net, and with some copious free time coming up (read: I’m in the midst of the process of leaving the U.S. Army), I decided to tackle a costume I’ve wanted to do for a long time - obviously, a Ghostbuster.
As I mentioned, I’m a current member of the U.S. Army, and will shortly be joining the Michigan National Guard once I move back to Michigan from Fort Bliss, Texas, which is where I am now.
Outside of everything else, I dabble in writing fiction, but I do a lot of gaming - PC, Xbox, and tabletop. Mostly EVE Online for PC and Classic BattleTech on PC and tabletop, and I play several games on my Xbox - current favorites are Far Cry 2, Ghostbusters (natch), Fallout 3, and Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Insofar as books and movies go, if it’s scifi, I’ve probably seen/read it at least once, or will be willing to. I’m working my way through the Honor Harrington series of books for the nth time, for example, and I’m catching up on Legend of the Seeker - that whole deployment thing meant no TV save the Armed Forces Network. And, surprise, no first-run shows like Legend make it onto AFN that often.
I’ve done some costuming as well - I’m a member of SciFi Hero and The Colonial Fleet, and have put together Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica costumes, and I’ve built a couple of custom lightsabers, but this one will be the first one I’ve built from the ground up.
This was the first saber I put together. I built it for my brother, to his design, using parts I got at a site called The Custom Saber Shop.
This second one is a bit old; I took this picture before I got the internal electronics working, which they did, albeit only briefly. Sadly, my soldering pencil bit the big one, so I have to get that replaced before I can try the electronics of this thing again.
And just for giggles, I have pictures of my Stargate costumes below. I don’t have any of my BSG costumes, as at least one of them is pending completion, and the other one is sitting in Michigan waiting for me.
The flightsuit has also gotten damaged beyond repair, I’m sad to say. I salvaged the patches, and I’m trying something a bit different with the replacement - I switched to an ACU jumpsuit, since I’m in the Army. Non-canon as hell, but that’s the magic of velcro - if I want, all I have to do is get more of the fuzzy stuff and another OD flightsuit, and I’m set.
Welcome aboard! Love your SG stuff since I’m a huge fan of everything Stargate! BSG kicks ass too! I served with the Rapid Deployment Forces of Finland so I have some military background myself but not here in the U.S.
