Wanted to bounce this off you guys. I’m working on making my pack GB1 accurate. I thought I’ve seen pics of Ray’s pack with white zip ties in two spots holding his computer cable tight. Is that accurate? I’d hate to put them on and then it not be right. Thanks!
Hm, you’re gonna need to observe the reference section. Some people use zip ties on their packs, others don’t. I don’t think they look good on the ribbon cables, though.
For the thicker gb1 cables they actually help keep them together and in place. They tend to want to straighten back out. The gb2 spectra strip is alot more flexible.
At least a couple of packs had zip ties on the cable. So it wouldn’t be inaccurate for you to do it.
**Yeah, my GB1 cable was made by a guy on here and it looks great, but is very fragile and I thought zip ties would help keep it together better. Plus, like Austin showed, there is reference pics of zip ties on the cables in GB1. That’s all I need to hear. Thanks! **
I believe the Time Magazine Proton Pack was the only one with zip ties on the cable but there was also a third one on the right. I put them on my pack build. Its a cheap and easy accurate upgrade so why not
edit: you know what? The pack with the zip ties must have been Venkman’s pack. look at the the screen cap closely. you can make out the 2 zip ties on the pack with the blue label on the top (Venkman’s) and the pack in the Time life pic has the same characteristics in the ribbon cable twist (position of wires)
The Zips are on atleast 2 different packs.
First is Ray’s pack during the Sedgwick scenes.
And as nosiliT has pointed out, in this scene you can see zip ties on 2 of the packs.
Sweet! Thanks!
0o0o0o0 a ziptie debate! me like! Ill keep my pack without ties for now. Im glad some pics were found really quickly that showed they were used in the movie.
Especially since they just threw them on the trap pedal for no apparent reason at all sinec that cable really dosent need to be held down
I’ve done alot of ribbon cable research and I’ve determined that Egon and Venkman have zipties, while Winston and Ray do not.
If you’re wondering, Egon’s pack is the LIFE magazine pack and Winston’s is the OMNI cover pack. You can look at these to get a clear picture of each cable. There are no clear pics of Ray or Venkman’s packs, though Ray’s has alot more screen-cap opportunity.
Um, Ray’s has 2 zip ties on his pack in the Sedgwick scenes. I even posted a picture with them circled! I think the only pack that does not have any zip ties is the extremely tightly wrapped pack.
How did you determine that Egon’s is the Life pack, and that Winston’s is the OMNI pack?
Does anyone know the brand of zip ties used? I want my pack screen accurate and I don’t wanna use the wrong kind ![]()
There were probably more than 4 packs, and the same actor didn’t always use the exact same pack every scene/take.
I agree with you Jairus. They most definitely did have more then just 4 packs and not every actor wore the same pack every time.
A perfect example would be Venkman is wearing the tightly wound pack when they go to get onto the elevator in the Sedgwick but later, Egon is wearing the tightly wound pack when they go running into “spook central” after the mini earth quake. Then when they are on the roof top, doing the “heat 'em up” sequence, Winston has that pack on. Sadly I don’t have the means to take my own screen grabs to show what I’m talking about, but if you really have to, you can step through the movie and look for yourself.
Point being, the packs got passed around a lot between scenes and takes. The point of this thread is if they had zip-ties on the ribbon cables and I think nosiliT and myself have provided more then enough evidence showing that some of the packs did.
There’s no point arguing over who’s pack is which, because no one actor used the same pack through out the whole movie.
the only reason I referred to the pack with the blue label on it as Venkman’s is that same pack is used by him in the montage when he’s in Chinatown with Ray. If you want to be jarred at how many times they switch packs check out GB2 and see how many times the shoulder straps change in the courtroom scene. everytime each actor fires up the gun in “do, re, Egon” it’s actually the same pack.
Ok, I agree about Ray’s pack now. I was seeing something different. This side shot looked like there was no zip tie on the midsection of the cable, which is what I saw:
Looking closer, it’s pretty easy to see the zip ties. That’s my bad.
As far as why Egon’s is the LIFE pack, look at these:
And the reason I say Winston’s is the OMNI Pack:
Venkman wears this pack once, outside the elevator, but once Winston joins up, he pretty much wears this pack the rest of the movie (except of course for the scene outside Dana’s apt. building where everyone is wearing a different pack).
And yes, I know, somebody JUST said that it’s not about who’s pack is who’s…I understand this, but I’m just trying to explain myself. This thread was about zipties and it basically looks like the Winston/Venkman Elevator/OMNI pack is the only one sans Zipties. I put zipties on my cable just for the hell of it. I think it looks cool.
Ok, I’m done. Sorry for buggin everybody…
**Just as an update, I’ve been working on my pack to bring it back to life after receiving it in multiple pieces from the seller. Here’s some pics with the new cable and zip ties.

Very nice Butcha, looks like you are patching that pack up nicely and will have it ready to rock in no time. ![]()
then again there’s the pic on Ghostbusters.com of the pack that says “Bill M”. Not to be a smartass or anything just to I guess try and see if there was a point where they did have specific ones for the actors. Or just Bill because of his “complaints”
In the end I guess it’s all what movie/scene/style/planet hollywood you want it to look like.
