I just wanted to get your guy’s two cents on the new Hot Wheel Ecto that is coming this fall. I found a place to preorder it for $106 including shipping.
It will be coming out in December and will go for $95-$115 before shipping and will be 1/18 scale.
Below is the previously released ertl 1/21 scale .
I know for anyone who does not have a diecast ecto the hotwheels one is the way to go. I already have the ertl ecto. Besides being a smidge longer, do you think it is worth upgrading to the hot wheel one? I know it will be a collector’s item since they are not going to make a ton of them, but with ghostbusters items I do not plan to ever sell them. The only thing I questioned on my ertl was the scaling. For some reason, the equipment on the roof of the ecto seemed to be shorter than I remembered in the movie. Any thoughts? Does the hot wheels one seem more accurate? Do you think the equipment on the roof of the ertl ecto was sized right? If not, do you think the hotwheels has better accuracy? I don’t want to buy this new ecto if it is exactly the same except for being maybe an inch or two longer. I’ve been debating this decision. Personally it looks more accurate with the hotwheels ecto, but it could just be the angle.
The pictures are from the 1/43 scale ecto that is releasing in september I believe. However, the 1/18 scale should be identical or even better than the 1/43 scale. Just including since it is less than half the cost and the pictures are much bigger.
Keep in mind another diecast company made 1959 Cadillac Superior Professional cars diecast a few yrs ago with real chrome on it and its the same price as the Ecto-1 diecast.
Glad to hear I am not the only one on the ertl release. Looks like my ertl is going to work and my hot wheels will be displayed with my ghostbusters stuff. It definitely looks better. I want to see some more pictures. Hopefully, the car is on display at comic con and a gb fan will post some youtube videos of the car and the mystery prop. I was debating the purchase since I have an ecto and the price for the upcoming one is fairly high for a die cast car. One of those things where if I want it, I got to buy it before it becomes rare.
I have the diecase one sitting pride of place on my bedroom window ledge. Would like to see this close up first before buying, if the detail is more accurate that is.
Looking at the prototype and painted prototype are alone a good indication of how accurate (and more accurate than the Joy Ride one) the new offering is.
