1/21 Ecto 1A project

Ive had some free time since I didn’t go to Summer college classes. I decided to build the 1A out the die-cast Ecto I bought. This is what I have accomplished so far. The roof rack is built entirely out of styrene as are the sign boards. Not bad for the first time working with the stuff.

The roof rack will be sprayed black later tonight. Then I will start construction of the junk that goes inside. After that, all the lights will be put on. Any constructive criticism?

This is going to be incredible, can’t wait to see your process and finished product.

great so far..im also looking foward to seeing the progress of this…just a little curious thought…is it just me or do the LED boards seem just a little bit too big…of course it may just be because im used to looking at the smaller ecto-1a model though…again great work

I agree… the should fit snugly beneath the tanks… right?

You guys are right, They should. I’ll have to look at it when the rack is dry. Looking at the reference photos, the sign should be skinnier.

It’s crude I know but, The top is the one I have, the second is cut down. The second one looks more like it.

Perhaps scaling is in order?

and another thing…honestly im not trying to be a pain here but the front of the roof rack where it goes over the front light bars…shouldnt it go down first then back up over the light bar…i dont know if tha tmakes any sense…if someone here has a pic of the rack from the model they could post it to show what im talking about…but otherwise it still looks great…and i dont think the scroll bars went under the tnak if thats what you mean…i think it went right up to the tank…out further than it

Yes they do, but after many futile attempts I just glued it that way. I figured after all is said and done it won’t be to noticeable.

That’s cool! I was thinking of doing the same thing but make it more movie accurate to the Ecto 1.

After seeing this, I may go ahead and do it soon. I may ask you lots of questions soon.

ah cool…well it does look good…

In a way it’s taking it back to one of the production models where it could be blatently seen it started off as an Ecto-1A replica, complete with raised rear lightbar and LED scroll boards.

Some really nice work with the styrofoam roof rack, you should be proud of the results.

Are the directional arrows and clear lightbars from another scaled car?

Off topic… what on earth happened to that Police Car? Why the bullet holes?

i dont recall ever seeing those production models…all i do know is that i wish they had made the car more accurate…you would figure they could atleast have done that right

The light bars and arrowstick are all 1/18 scale. I bought everything from http://www.Policecarmodels.com. The police car is another project. It is actually a practice car for any project I work on. I test things out on that before I start hacking into the final. I’m working on the police car from Live Free or Die Hard. I’ll post some pictures of that one when it’s done.

I’ll be happy to answer questions to the best of my ability. I’ll post pictures of the painted roof Rack tomorrow.

I cant wait to see how it turns out its looking great so far

Painted rack, test fit of the box within the rack, new signs boards. Now I have to build the boxes that go inside, The tank is some PVC pipe ends.

very nice

Yeah, it seemed kinda lazy to make such a huge mistake like that and then to have those errors that stayed with the model… like the satellite dish that was left over from the Ecto-1A ‘identity crisis’.

Here’s two pics from Proton Charging:

The above image even features completely blue lightbars (like they’d been modified from completely clear ones as seen on the ‘1A’ model which lacked the silver ‘siren’ sections as seen on the ones on Ecto-1).

Anyway, it’s coming along nicely, Mufasa. There the possibility of you doing a more film accurate 1:21 Ecto-1 in the future?

oooohhh..i see now..man thats crazy…i wish i would get to work on a GB toy line one day or something like that…at least i could make sure its accurate haha…

yeah man it is looking really good…how are you gonna do the painting on the car…like the caution stripes and all…you gonna actually paint those on or use decals

I’ve thought about it but, it all depends on my class schedule this semester.

I have a scan of the stickers from the AMT Ecto 1A model that some one posted here. I plan to blow those up in photoshop and print them out on decal paper.

Very nice work dude!

I already made one to, i think the result is cool. I uilt most of the element by my own with wood and any kind of stuff with the shape i needed. I respected all detail of the real 1A. Only the lights i used are the same as the Ecto1, yours look cooler. im impatient to see your final works.
