Fantastic movie.I won’t say anything else.The less you know,the better off you are.I hadn’t even seen the original Cloverfield,I just wanted to watch John Goodman work his magic (one of my favorite actors).I wasn’t disappointed.And since this thing follows me everywhere,saw the 2016 trailer on a big screen,and got a compliment on my logo hoodie while waiting to get my ticket from a little girl.Good parenting if you ask me.Check this out,but go in blind.Don’t read or watch a damn thing.

I liked it too. Very rare for a modern movie to employ Hitchcock-like storytelling, but it pulled it off quite successfully. It also doesn’t hurt that it had Mary “easy on the eyes” Winstead. She seems to like being in these predicaments (The Thing prequel, Final Destination 3, etc.)
I thought it was great, but kind of came unravelled in the last 15 minutes. The ending felt very tacked on and like a completely different movie to me.
I read the original script, and the original ending would have been so much better.
I didn’t hate the movie, don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed it. I definitely liked it. And Goodman gave an incredible performance.
I just thought the ending could have been better.
I enjoyed it, though I think Cloverfield is the superior film. What was the original ending?
Well, basically, the script wasn’t originally related to Cloverfield in any way. And the movie was even more of a psychological mind-screw. But Michelle escapes the bunker, Howard chases her (the acid wasn’t present in the script). They end up in the farm house and a fight ensues, and Michelle ends up shooting him in the leg and runs away. As she’s running away she sees photos in the house that prove Howard was telling the truth about his daughter, and she continues running away anyway. Howard yells out the window “Michelle, be careful!” and she drives away, thinking he was lying about the alien apocalypse stuff. As she’s driving she realizes her phone has no services, there are no cars on the roads. She stops at a gas station and no one is there either. The radio isn’t picking up any signals of any kinds. She drives on and crests the hill, and slams on the brakes and sees the city (originally Chicago) is all smoking rubble. She pulls the hazmat mask back down over her face. Cut to credits.
So in my opinion, if they would have just changed the locale to New York, then that’s the whole connection you need to Cloverfield, and it really opens up a lot of interesting questions.
