2026 Predictions...events, toys and mech releases?

First off…Happy New Year to everyone. I cant believe its 2026! Last year we got alot of Ghostbusters stuff post Frozen Empire and i’m hoping the trend continues, especially now we are approaching the 40th anniversary or The Real Ghostbusters Premiering on ABC on September 13, 1986. God i feel old now lol.

We got a wonderful mondo line of figures already out (I got both the 2 packs of Egon and Peter with pre orders secured for Winston and Ray and more figures upcoming) and I’m hoping that trend continues. We got the Funko Pop line of both Ghostbusters 2 and The Real Ghostbusters sets, which are fantastic, and we got the wonderful Visual history book of The Real Ghostbusters, so i can say we are in the swing of things for the shows 40th anniversary.

Hasbro did some amazing things last year with the line with the Kenner Classics re releases, along with the Ecto Glow figures, and the fantastic Haslab Ecto 1’s.

Even Blitzway re released their line of Ghostbusters figures, which sold out within moments.

This year, i hope we get even more stuff. Call me greedy. Heres a wish list of things i hope happens in 2026.

1: We get an announcment for the next Ghostbusters film from Jason Reitman and Gil Kennan. Frozen Empire did well enough for a sequel and i think we will get one within a few years with this one being the last of the Original Team.

2: News on the Netflix Cartoon Series/Projects. I dont know if they will release this year or next, but we should get more news on them as they are currently in production from my understanding.

3: More Mondo figures. We allready know they are planning a Janine and Louis Tully Real Ghostbusters figures, Hopefully we get more ghosts, maybe a big Mr Stay Puff or even a animated version of an Ecto 1.

4: More Kenner Classic figures. Its the 40th anniversary of The Real Ghostbusters after all and id love more re released lines. Hopefully we even get a re release of the Firehouse finally!

5: A New Haslab campaign. This time either focusing on a Drone Ghost Trap, Ecto Goggles or maybe…and one can dream, a matching scale Firehouse to go along with the Plasma Series figures and Ecto 1’s. One can dream can i?

6: Ghostbusters Day in NYC of course, where we will get the majority of major announcements, with more details as usual with Comic Con in both San Diego and NYC in the fall.

Hopefully half of these come true. I dont see why some cant. The Brands still alive and well and making a profit. I think we do need new projects though and cant rely on just the older stuff but the focus this year should be on The Real Ghostbusters.

what are your thoughts and wishes for 2026?

I don’t want much to be honest. A nice set of ecto goggles would be nice. Likely a haslab but not sure what they can send with it. The trap could have been a haslab on its own and the goggles packaged with the PKE.

I could see that. I think if hasbro does anything it should be a Firehouse…re release the kenner classic one for everyone this year…then make the end of the year Haslab be the plasma series scale one…and if it passes backing put that out the end of 2027

I was thinking about this on New Years Eve…they have to reveal that Netflix cartoon already whether it releases in ‘26 or not.

I didn’t think it’d be 4 years later (pretty much, GB Day ‘22) and we’d still have zero information on it. I know some people saw concept art and Dan and Ernie mentioned it but I mean…name, plot, look etc.

Hopefully a new live action movie is announced. They’ve already said they plan on another one and everyone has at least said they want to do another one.

In terms of toys I want NEW merchandise. Stuff based on Frozen Empire and of course the Netflix projects. GB seems to be stuck in this cycle where 90% of things are based on the first 2 movies. The rest is Kenner re-releases and mostly theater exclusive items. Some of which I have. Plasma Series FE, a Garraka figure, Mini Puft Plushies and new LEGO sets would have been awesome.

Mondo figures are great but too expensive. I really only wanted the Boogieman. Shame there’s never been a readily available toy of him. I know there was some super rare figure before. Don’t know who made it.

On a the more personal side, speaking of the Firehouse, I would love if they made miniature playsets. Someone made a mini firehouse on YouTube. Never had the full size one and not really interested in it now either but scaled down stuff is cute. Maybe a PollyPocket style clamshells. They made some for Jurassic World.

If it’s a Giga Meter and Ecto Goggles set, that would be a shut up and take my money. I mean, they just did a HasLab that celebrates GB1 and GB2 with the Ectomobiles and the assorted figures that came with it.

Diamond Select, I believe. And well an all blue mini-fig in Cryptozoic’s Ghostbusters: The Board Game.

If were looking for Mech releases, I’d like the transforming Optimus Prime Ghostbusters mash up to come with lights and sound.

I felt 2025 still kept the franchise out there, but not on the same level that we’ve seen in recent years. I’m hoping for a bit more in 2026, but I’m trying to keep my expectations in check.

I would love to see them announce a Frozen Empire sequel, but I’m conflicted on whether I see that happening this year. I think the premiere of the animated series is maybe more likely. I certainly hope we see that by the end of the year.

Assuredly, more merch is on the way. I’m not really a Haslab collector, so Mondo will be my main focus. I could see them doing variants of the hero figures, but new ghosts are what interests me the most. I’m good with pretty much any villain through Season 4, but would even welcome some others.

I’m assuming a new Dark Horse series will be announced soon. That’s something else to look forward to. I’d like to see them add some one-shot issues to the schedule that give the spotlight to some of the underdeveloped GBs.

Not sure if it was Kingpin or GBNews who said there were rumours of something big for the RGB 40th Anniversary.

I’d take a fresh Blu Ray release of the show. Maybe even the He-Man-style upscale AI treatment, which seems unlikely.

Outside of the Mondo figures and Visual History I don’t know what else could be done to mark the 40th anniversary. A series guidebook / bible?

Or maybe a Haslab RGB pack. Or Hasbro firehouse. Eek.

Elsewhere I hope we get the new animated series unveiled soon. And a third film announcement - given McKenna expressed a desire to do another and James Acaster was recently pushing Frozen Empire on a podcast… maybe the Uncanny podcast? I feel like it’s only a matter of time.

Merch wise I’ve bailed on the Ectogow capsule series to prioritise Mondo’s RGB figures. I’d be tempted by reissues of the other Kenner waves.

off the top of my head, I recall at Comic Con last year, Hasbro’s Emily Bader said they talked to Ghost Corps about their plans for the 40th anniversary of The Real Ghostbusters so the Hasbro team can start ideating and thinking of how to combine forces. So there are plans.

Feels like a Firehouse re-issue is a given. I wouldn’t object to a movie version of the Firehouse, too.

Oh man, if only. I’m almost ashamed of how many hundred dollar bills I would toss at such a set.

I would love an RGB pack… or if they want to complete the Afterlife equipment - Afterlife goggles would be wonderful!

Agreed, they gotta know Ecto Goggles is on top of the wish list. I’d still want more Plasma Series figures like the Frozen Empire team, the Engineer Corps, and ghosts like the Scoleri Brothers and Garraka.

Making of Frozen Empire book.

Gosh, I can’t wait for Too Hot To Handle to release. There being a GB2 in the doc is what convinced me to help crowdfund it in the first place. Hope it finally clarifies some things / reveals new info. So much more to learn about GB2 I feel. It’s gotta be coming out this year. Knock wood.

Would be cool to see the Interdimensional Crossrip podcast to return from cryosleep.

Pie in the sky wish would be an Extreme Ghostbusters book in the vein of Troy and Craig’s RGB Visual History book for the 30th anniversary in 2027. An official Blu-ray series set would be cool, too… lol, look me wishing stuff for 2027 already.

Yeah, would be great to have a new complete set. A few of the discs in my Time Life set succumbed to disc rot so I bought one of those partial sets as back up+replacements. Plus, they could add the missing Killerwatt screen and the restored pilot and maybe find a fix for the issue with some episodes being too slow or too fast (not sure how that can be remedied).

I suggested LEGO sets and was thinking what they could have done for FE.

Firehouse (not another full blown one). Somewhat smaller that’s just the front exterior that flips around to the Garraka fight. Play feature could have him fall into the containment unit. This would be the higher end set that includes mini figures of everyone.

Sewer Dragon Chase. Since they sometimes take liberties with their sets base it around the Ecto-C motorcycle instead of the car since it would be more expensive. The Sewer Dragon should be the focus. Ray, Phoebe and/or Podcast mini figures for the sidecar.

Ray’s Occult. Exterior that flips to the front of the store. Maybe a rotating bookshelf that hides Mini Pufts. Basically make it their play set since they live there too. Can’t exactly turn Repossessed into a play feature.

Paranormal Research Center. I’m thinking a containment room with the Ionic Separator being the play feature. Place objects inside and a ghost appears in the tube…no ghost Phoebe, that would be weird for a Lego set…just some gimmick. Maybe different ghosts you can mix and match.

YES!!! I was so hyped to hear Ryan Doell ask about that on the Holiday Fundraiser stream.

Fingers crossed this year! I hope you enjoy it!

110%! Love those guys.

My pie-in-the-sky merch would be more statues and maquettes from Arjen’s studio. He released a really cool Librarian bust last year. I’d love to see a series of Muncher, Pukey, Bug Eye, the Shandor Miner, SLIMER!!!

Ah, I forgot to add Too Hot To Handle to my initial post. Cleaning Up the Town was really solid, and I’m looking forward to this one too.

I believe the single volumes that Sony released in 2016 corrected the eight episodes that played slow. Perhaps they fixed their speed for the release, but I assume they had just found better masters by that time. Unfortunately, the 12 episodes that play fast were not included. Fingers crossed that correct versions exist for those as well.

@mrmichael: Yes, Diamond Select produced a Boogey Man figurine as part of their Real Ghostbusters MiniMates line in 2011. Got him in my collection.

With this year marking the 40th anniversary Of The Real Ghostbusters airing on tv, I would imagine that in addition to the announced convention exclusive Ecto Glow Louis Tully and Ecto Glow copter, more Kenner Classics releases will be coming out. I have really enjoyed getting a majority of the reissues that came out at Walmart and Target.

Also, I would hope that another release of the cartoon series on physical media is planned. I have been enjoying watching The Real Ghostbusters in SD on Blu Ray on the Region 2 Blu Ray pressing from Turbine media of Germany (I want to save on were and tear on my Time Life DVD set). From what I recall, on this set none of the episodes that were speed up or slowed down on the Time Life DVD pressing have those issues here. Although “Killerwatt” is still missing its title card.

Sorry i havent posted more in here in the past few days, been busy with personal stuff. But, all of you guys have wonderful ideas. Id love an AI upscaled version of the entire series. I dont know what that would take to get done though. One assumes it be simple, its animation, so Ai should be able to handle that no problem but AI also loves to add things or misinterpret things all the time.

I think our best shot at anything new for THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS is from Hasbro with the kenner classic line. i really would love a re release of the firehouse. I got all the kenner classic figures both carded and opened sitting dusty on my shelves and they really need a proper home lol.

I think Haslab has multiple things they could do IF THEY DECIDE TO CONTINUE TO THE LINE…Remember we diden’t get any new haslab campaign last year in 2025. So at the end of this year we dont have another cool ghostbusters item coming. At best we will have a campaign for something at the end of 2027.

Id love for them to do life size versions of the animated gear and proton pack. That be fantastic. It be simple too as they are not anywhere near as complex as the movie versions. The Animated packs and gear by nature are far more simpler in design because they have to be in ordered to be animated by hand (at the time).

It wouldent be hard at all for them to make a pack, trap and PKE Meeter no problem. People have been 3d printing their own versions for years and if i had the money and space to do it in id do it myself.

But on the flip side of that coin i really want, nay NEED new versions of the firehouse. The plasma series line is sourly missing a crucial playset in terms of the firehouse. IF they can do a fully detailed version of The Millennium Falcon, The Razor Crest and The Ghost and The Cantina from star wars, (All very complex designs compared to the fire house sans the cantina) then a plasma series firehouse with a scale Containment Unit and maybe some lab play features are simple by comparison.

Question is, will they do that. The Kenner firehouse is beyond simple to do for them. You dont need to change that design at all and just re issue it. 50-100 dollars is more then fair for that (I forget what it retailed for, maybe 50 tops back in the day)… but thats a 40 year old design and a classic toy. That would sell no problem. But even the more advance plasma series version, would still be super simple for them to do. Your not dealing with compound shapes and super fine detail in terms of piping and greeblies and panneling like you would be doing with a star wars playset.

I just hope they do something. Theres plenty of choices and options for them to do…my biggest fear is they wont see the profit in it cause i highly doubt ghostbusters pulls in the same numbers as Star Wars or Transformers or even Gi Joe.

Oh I remember something I wanted. A Care Bears crossover. They just did one with Stranger Things. GB would definitely work. I always wanted that Build-a-Bear one but this would be better. One dressed in full gear, a white one dressed as Stay Puft and whatever others they’d want to do.

My dream crossover would be with Sonic. He’s currently crossing over with the DCU so a Ghostbusters collaboration is not far fetched or over the top imo. Not just toys. In a game or something.

My pie in the sky for RGB (aside from the upscaled set) would be a blu-ray or streaming movie akin to the DC animated features. I’m not really that interested in a full relaunch; just one more story with as much of the cast as they could reunite.

I know it won’t happen, but I do wonder if someone at Ghost Corps has ever broached the idea. Perhaps there are rights issues with the designs. I know EGB had an issue with that.

Ghostbusters News recently did a video about how Netflix doesn’t appear to be releasing the new animated Ghostbusters series this year. I wasn’t expecting it, (but kinda hoping anyways, i mean it is animation, its not like the old days where it was all hand drawn and manually photographed) but im still a bit bummed out and as far as i know we dont have any Ghostbusters Videos Games or anything this year, so it looks like Merch is all we are realistically going to get…SO IT BETTER BE A HELL OF A YEAR FOR IT LOL.

Realistically i doubt we will hear any major announcements before the New York Toy Fair next month, but more likely in June with Ghostbusters day, then comic con in the middle of July.
