I’ve been lurking around for a long time and I am finally happy to make an appearance here.
I was just a kid when I fell in love with the animated series, “The Real Ghostbusters”. This lead me to then watch the movie and I fell in love with that too. My best friend at the time and I were complete Ghostbuster freaks. She loved Venkman, I loved Spengler (and I still do!). We even made our own homemade “Zener” cards and tested each other’s ESP regularly. I even went so far as to write a Ghostbusters story, complete with cover art and drawings that I worked on for months. (No surprise now that I’m a graphic artist). If the internet had existed at that time with this GB Fans site, our heads would have exploded in excitement with all the information, pictures and goodies found here.
I was 13 when I made my first proton pack. I modeled it after the one in the animated series. We had no VCR at the time so I could not record or freeze frame for reference, so I would carefully watch every episode I could and quickly sketch out what I saw on TV for my reference. My pack was made out of corrugated cardboard, wood blocks, duct tape and assorted goodies I found in the trash. I wore it proudly on Halloween with a grey jumpsuit complete with a hand drawn “Ghostbusters” logo on my shoulder.
So, what you are saying is, if it wasn’t for Ghostbusters, you wouldn’t be the person you are now? O.o Whoa.
What I won’t give to have a friend who was really into gb like you and your friend, back in the day. With that said, welcomel So, do you have pictures of your first pack? If so, you should post them. You going to build a “big kid” pack or are you going to bust out the old one?
Yeah, I guess Ghostbusters has played a part in who’ve I become. I never really thought of it that way before, but it’s true.
I do have a picture in existence of my first pack somewhere, but I am afraid it is lost in a box or album somewhere. If I come across it though, I will surly post it. As for my pack, being made of cardboard and all, it sadly sorta melted and fell apart after we had a flood in our basement.
I would love to make a “big kid” pack as you say, but I must confess, after looking at all the great packs on this site, I find it a little intimidating. I may make one again in the future though when I have a little more time on my hands. I’m married with 2 young children. My son is 3 and my daughter is only 4 months old, so needless to say, I kinda have my hands full at the moment. I’ve been toying around with the idea of getting myself a proper GB uniform though. I might be able to pull that together slowly, bit by bit.
The important part is to take your time and be proud of you suit and your pack when you do it…

Thanks, Dr. Dion. It’s been a while since I posted this thread, so my suit is actually coming along nicely now. I’m waiting for my elbow pads and I am trying to cobble together a gizmo right now. Thanks for letting me know about the upcoming Comic con. I’ve never actually been to one. Maybe I’ll have a chance to check it out. It sounds like fun. Do you guys suit up in all your gear when you go?
