alice pack question

ok when my pack came i noticed that there was no way to mount the mobo onto it, meaning i have to drill holes in the frame itself in order to attatch it,

so my question is how the hell do i do that ? will a dremel work on it and if so what drill bit do i use ?

Most dremels won’t hold a large enough drill bit, you’re gonna want to use an actual drill.

dam lol i dont have a drill, im gonna have to see about borrowing 1 from somewhere

Well you COULD do it with a dremel, it’d just be easier, faster and less chance of messing it up with the right tools. :whatever:

I suggest if you don’t own one that you invest in one. They aren’t that expensive and you will use it for more than just mounting the mobo. Its just one of those essential tools IMO.

I wouldn’t even attempt a pack build without a drill. you can get a cheap one at wal mart for about 20 bucks. Hell, look at good will stores, they have tools from time to time.

What do you mean there’s no holes to attach it, do you mean the 3rd mount or there’s no holes at all?

Its ver possible that he has a knockoff pack which may not have any holes to mount it. Imo, if you dont own a drill your already in waaaaaaay over your head, haha. But seriously there is no replacement for doing a job with the right tools. Make an investment, your pack will thank you.

yeah theres no holes, it looks like i got a knock off :frowning:

Post some pictures if you can Claret, as they’ll help us to refine our advice.

I’m surprised you didn’t already have a drill, but there’s no argument for not having one as it pays for itself… even if you weren’t needing to modify the frame, you’d still have needed it for drilling the shell for the elbows, barbs, screws etc, as well as drilling the Ion Arm for the metal and resistor fittings.

I think I know the kind of pack frame you got and mine was the same way. No holes on the bottom. It is becuase it’s not military. The one I bought was for backpacking and was made for diffrent bags that can be attatched much like the military pack frames but ust without the holes at the bottom of the pack frame. Like Jack said it can work with a dremel but a drill will make a 2 hour project into a 5 min. one. Invest now and save time and effort.

Yeah I think we got the same pack, I don’t have a shell coz I’m scratchbuilding the whole thing outta mdf so the Dremel has been an integral part of my build, I borrowed a drill but it was slow, I’m thinking the motor on it is dying so I’m gonna have to buy 1 it seems, I’ll take some pics of it and post them shortly, just finished work and I’m beat lol

just a question, if i was to use my dremel what bit would be the best to cut through metal

Uhmm, a drill bit of course, but you wont be able to get a drill bit the right size in your dremel, far from it.

Just a normal drill bit ? Coz I’ve been drilling a hole I started with a drill with my Dremel and its not got any bigger lol

Well some drill bits are made only for wood, what you want is a bimetal bit. The frame is aluminum so drilling through it should be quite easy.

FYI, the stock holes are 3/8" x 1 1/2"
