So is there a comprehensive list of alternative materials used for the fins on the Proton Pack ? I really don’t want to cut out a billion plywood strips, but It obviously needs to be something I can sand so I can round them out.

By fins do you mean heatsink?

Like on the side on the gun box, here?
if you mean the heat sink on the gun, i would say make it out of a piece of wood and Popsicle sticks. if you mean the ribbing on the pack itself, magnetic strips work really well. that’s what i did for my pack. hope this helps you out man.
I’m an idiot I meant the ribbing.
like i said, buy some magnet strips 1/4" wide, they work really well and will save you a lot of time.
Any specific glue you used to apply them ? Or are they self stick ?
they are self stick, but i would recommend super glue, sticks on real well surprisingly, what will your pack be made of specifically.
Its mostly wood really
ok super glue will work just fine man.
Id use 1/8" thick styrene strips. Yes youll have to cut them yourself but you only need 13 of them (and 4 diddy ones) and can be sanded and smoothed out etc. Little bit of extra work but will look great when finished.
Magnetic strips? Are you talking about this stuff?

Way too thin, and not wide enough at all. You would be better off getting some basla wood at your local hobby store.
I made mine out of balsa strips, personally. It was definitely a bit tedious, but the results were great.
That’s what I used on my build…
If you can find it, get 1/8" x 1/2" balsa wood or 1/8" x 1/2" styrene strips. If you are ordering online you can easily find those materials in that exact size, all you would have to do is cut to length. Finding them locally is possible, but sometimes more difficult as most hobby stores don’t have room to sell everything in every size.
The nice thing about styrene is you can heat it to bend around your gun mount and gear box, and there is no grain to clean up.
Got any recommendations for a place that might sell these strips ? I’m totally new to this area of building nad resources. Now if this were Jack Sparrow related - I’d have all the answers !
Basla or other wood strips can be found at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Lowes, Home Depot and other arts stores, I just can’t be certain if they have them in that exact size.
yeah that’s what i’m talking about
Seems kind of thin, probably close to 1/16. If you found some that were 1/2" wide and layered them up, then maybe they would work, but it seems like they would be difficult to clean up and all.
actually, there 1/8" thick. 1/2" wide is what i meant. i did stack it, they were too thick.
