Does anyone know an alternative to use for the rubber hose that runs from the pack to the gun? If you watch the movie the chord is flimsy and able to be moved around easily. However, if you use the 3/4" rubber hose, it’s very stiff and sticks out the side in people’s way!.. Maybe a rope? I don’t know
Also, I’m looking for Proton Pack spacers, I know we can’t sell stuff on here, but I’ve heard about javamonkey and funkzilla on here, but can’t seem to get in touch with them.
Split loom is the only thing used. No if, ands, or butts if your trying to make a accurate pack. However, if you take the Radio shackk stuff and give it a good stretching, it becomes much more plyable. You’ll also want to wrap it with electrical tape every 3 inches or so.

If you’re talking about an alternative for those hose that goes inside the split loom tubing from the pack to the gun, I think you answered your own question. Rope seems like an excellent alternative, just make sure you get a really loose, flexible kind.
You’re right about the hose inside the split loom being stiff and a pain in general. If you wear the pack in cold weather (like if you wore it on Halloween, for whatever reason) it can get so stiff as to be unusable. That’s why I completely ignored the tubing and just used plain split loom on my pack. It’s strong enough to keep the gun connected to the pack yet very flexible.
i dont like the split loom. so i went to the garden department at ACE hardware and got underground irrigation tubing. its flexable, crush resistant, and damn close to looking like split loom
Regular 3/4" split loom for me.. or was it 1 and 1/4… ah well, works well for me, I even have wires traveling from the pack into the gun for running the lights.
Many people use the tube that is used to make your own backyard pond. It’s in the pond section at Home Depot. It comes very close to the tube used in the movie.
Whatever you do, don’t buy split tubing from Lowe’s…I made that mistake on one or two of my packs and the diameter is too big by a pinch and the tube is just too stiff…maybe what you’re looking for though…
Go to the Hardware store and ask for 3/4" vinyl hose. It’s stiff enough to give the split loom some rigidity but still flexible enough for it to move right.
I had 3/4 in vinyl tubing I got from Lowes inside the black split tubing but it was way to rigid and made it nearly impossible to draw my thrower and hold it correctly with out the hose pulling into a weird angle. So I removed it and just use the straight up split tubing. It’s much more flexable and doesn’t jut out as far. Before I had a hard time getting through doorways with my thrower holstered because of the vinyl tubing.

I am still in the process of building my pack but I’m using bilge pump hose. You can find it at hardware or boating stores. When I first got it, it was really stiff and did weird things when it was moved - but I found it you string a rope through it… and tie a heavy weight onto one end, and tie the other to something high off the ground so it’s forced to hang straight. I left that thing out in the sun like that for a couple days and when I pulled it down, it was pretty flexible. I also found that putting a length of rope inside it helps keep it from kinking up.

It’s not the split loom I have a problem with, it’s the rubber hose inside it! It’s hard to move around
I’m planning on using a dead piece of Cat5 networking cable…that stuff’s pretty flexible.
I used the split tubbing from lowes. It works great, however, I did not use any rubber hose or anything inside of the split tubbing. I found it was more flexable without it.
i used clear vinyl tubing, then wrapped it with wire covering (its spiral shaped - almost like old phone cords) it gave adequate flexibility, and a mix of black / clear elements…not to mention the ability to run necklace glowsticks through it (gave a great ecto-glow)

I have just a quick question. Im fininshing my gun and pack soon and I will need to connect the gun and pack together with the split loom. What size split loom do I use?
I’m using the plastic hose from my CPAP. I proimered and painted it, and they send me a new hose every few months (otherwise i wouldn’t be able to use the CPAP) : )
The real packs had nothing more than wires and a steel cable running inside.
Like the man said, plastic split loom hose. That’s about it.
In my case I lucked out. There’s a store near me that sells NON-split loom. It looks REALLY good since it’s still all in one piece. Inside of that I run a section of clear plastic hose ( from hardware store, looks like larger version of the clear hose you’s see in a fishtank ) and inside of that hose are all my wires. I think I have a bundle of about 7-8 wires going up to the gun.
Even if you don’t have electronics in your gun, run the wires anyways. Those plus the plastic hose and the split ( or NON ) loom hose is firm enough to look good, but not so firm it’s unmovable.
