gun to pack hose...what's everyone using?

well after many months of having my non-split loom hose i have decided to replace it with one that isnt so stiff.

after looking at the references photos, screen grabs, watching the movie itself i see the hose “hangs” and droops very nicely where as mine is not as flexable, sticks out at all angles and even bends in on itself where the hose enters the pack.

i heard that split loom is more flexable so i cut mine and now is a little more flexable but only because the hose can flatten itself out at certain points :frowning:

i went to all the places in my area that sell loom, conduit, vacuum hose etc and they didnt have as flexable as they are in the movie and i’ve seen many packs on here that use perfect looking hose that droops and hangs just right.

so does anyone have any nice flexable hose i could purchase or point out where i can get some? any help will be great

The shop here on GBFans sells it. Good stuff, too.

I don’t think it’s a matter of what kind of loom you use, but rather what you do with it. I’d feed a rubber hose inside the loom and you should get the desired effect. It’ll add a little weight to your pack, but it helps the hose move and feel a little more like it should.

yeah i got my non-split loom from AJ. top notch hose but ive just never been able to get it to “hang” like in the films.

hmmm an interesting idea! has anyone tried something like this?

can anyone tell me what the screen used packs had running through the hose? was it just the wires for the gun lights etc?

I’m pretty sure the original packs just had wiring for the gun electronics going through the hose. I’m planning on running some stuff I saw at home depot called “Caulk backer rod” its dirt cheap and found in the weather stripping section. It comes 20 feet in a bag and looks like foamy grey tube.

3/4" clear vinyl hose from Lowe’s. It took some muscle to feed it through the non-split loom sold here, but it gives the hose some heft.

Yup, and the best part is, you can use a hose barb to attach it to your pack, so the method of attachment is exactly the same as the 1/4" loom, although it might be a challenge fitting all the wires through barb, especially with those plug & play light boards that Exoray’s known to make.

Im glad the hose on my gun is the harder type last night the bracket on my gun broke and as its mounted above the stairs the gun came crashing down and hit the floor thank god its been made well as it suffered only really minor damage and the wires to the lights were ripped out, But i fixed it i was horrified ive now put bigger screws in the gun mount as it seems the glue that was on it just came off. But as i say the hose broke the fall…

:whatever:

Elwood

I tried using a 3/4 hose from my dad’s CPAP (SP? - the thing they use when they suffer from sleep apnea…)

I wanted to use vinyl dye, but couldn’t get any. so I dyed it with black fabric dye, it was DARK black when I tried, but turned out blue.

so I did some testing with spraypaint for a section, it went well, and I use it to the crank box.

However, on the one that we keep using, the motion makes that it chips badly…

I am planing on putting this 3/4 hose inside a 1" split loom. I think its going to look good once I do that.

thankyou Mars for those photos. i keep seeing vacuum hoses in town that look very flexable and hang just right but they are all blue, purple or grey so was thinking if there was a way to paint or dye them. but now i know it looks to be a little harder than i thought.

i think im going to order some new split loom/conduit and try putting rubber hose inside that. hopefully i can get it to hang right

I thought there was a spray paint that came out that kind of had a flex to it? Let me see if I can find the paint online quick.

Krylon Fusion, found in your auto department. I also found this stuff, maybe it could work? http://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricants.com/supplier/product.asp?product=Interior%20Spray%20Paint&category=Paint

I use an aquarium filter hose. It’s Fluval brand and it hangs pretty nicely. Much more rubbery than stiff plastic.

ohblee what is the outside diameter of that fluval hose?

It’s the same as the “non split” split loom that is sold on GBfans, but it’s just a teeny bit smaller. I bought some of it first and wasn’t happy with how unflexible it was for the pack to gun hose. A guy on Proptopia mentioned the aquarium hose and I picked some up. I think it works great. It’s even got a rubber plug end that fits right into my wand handle. I’m at work right now, but I can measure it and give you an exact number tomorrow. I’ll try to snap a few pictures, too.

edit

Found a pic from a recent con. That’s me on the left. You can see how the hose hangs pretty well there.

thats does indeed look great! ok you convinced me, ive just ordered some from ebay  i’ll let you know how it works out for me. many thanks for your help

People use this to make custom nerf darts called stefans. they work pretty well actually.

Just for reference, the fluval hose is .67 inches and the GBFans hose is .75. That’s a little over 1/16" wider.

There you have it. Thanks for the numbers, Ghost Guy. To me, the size difference isn’t noticeable but the flexibility in the hose is.

Ohblee, how much does those sell for in store? I might have to get that. You have what I was trying to achieve… but mine wasn’t properly coloured. lol.

I got mine from some aquarium shop online. I think it was like $19 or something. It’s pretty long. I think there’s enough for two ‘gun to pack’ runs. I gave my extra to a buddy of mine who working on a pack.
