I was enjoying looking at all of the ecto’s on the site here when i can across an idea. I am sure everyone knows what a Uhaul truck looks like. I was wondeing the feasibility of making a Uhaul into an ecto. Not really as an ecto-1 but as an Emergency mobile command. here is what i was thinking
A portable containment grid
A protable data base containing electronic copies of Tobins and the Ethary cataloge.
A full first aid station.
Super Slammer (of course)
A spare proton pack, multi pack (Video game) and a Slimmer
Spare Traps
Radar
HD TV for debriefings and group meetings.
I realise this would be Expensive. but I think it would be a fun project. Any suggestions on what else idea
What i ment by this post it would be fun to build something like this. and i was listing what “would” go into something like this if this were a movie prop. I love to build things just to see if i can. I find it relaxing and enjoyable. so i would ask if you would stay on topic please. What i wanted to get out of this post is what others thought would go into a vehicle like this.
well, i am not building anything yet. uhauls are kind of hard to comeby.
What exactly i am looking for is input what would go inside this “Mobile Command center”
The idea behind it is that it is a base away from base, a what they would haul out if shit really hit the fan. thus the “containment grid” communications, extra traps and packs, first aid, Supper slammer (video game) internet access, catalogs of ghosts, fire suppression gear, debreifing capabilities. ect…
What i am asking is what am i missing. what do you guys think would go in there if this were a movie prop . does that clear it up?
Some brain food, here are the interiors of a few Mobile Incident Command Units, the only thing, these cost a cool million +
Kids really do love climbing around inside this sort of thing. At our last touch a truck event there were virtually endless lines of kids to walk though vehicles of this type.
It will be power intensive though, you have to have at minimum interior lights, bud I’d reccomend having at least one flat panel monitor going with something technical on it. A bank of marine batteries and an inverter would be a good bet.
Also make sure to get something you can securely mount equipment to. Most u-haul type trucks are aluminum bodies which really won’t support weight. You might have luck rigging something to the steel frame cargo hooks, but no guarantees.
Most of all, keep it clean. There’s a very fine line between truck full of radios and electronic equipment that looks cool or skeevy/crazy.
Also, don’t try to put anything substantial on the roof of the box. They’re high enough already, people won’t be able to see it unless it’s right along the sides, and the roof on a uhaul was never meant to hold cargo weight.
Oh, and if you want people getting into and out of it, get a set of stairs to place behind it. You would be amazed how high children will try (and fail) to jump from to get out of a vehicle.
A proton charging unit would be cool. I always think of the line “Were having specials on proton charging” in the first movie after they catch slimer and wonder what this device was and what it would look like. You could put some kind of wepons cage in to hold extra traps, fire extinguisher, yada yada yada… somthing like the NES Advantage from GB2 would look cool in there to.
I was actually considering a standard ambulance myself the rear would have a place to store and charge packs, inside the cabinets one shelf could be a place to charge PKEs. I’d put up a clipboard with a job roster, a mini containment grid, A map of the bay area on the wall with pins all over it. I’d build a bunch of props you find in the firehouse and put them in the cabinets as well as some slime, uniforms and the GB2 van horne equipment in a closet the . on the outside modify one of the equipment doors to create a slime blower fill station ( some kind of clear tube with slime in it and a faucet.) On the roof as well as the standard roof equipment put together a slammer trap from the game. since you have mini containment unit you would have to have a radation or laser warning on the back doors. Miller metors are getting hard to come by, so something a little more modern may be cheaper but not by much. I’d use this as our primary ecto for events and such then park it in an enclosed RV storage unit when not in use
the less you paint of rusted and primered parts, the more caution tape you have, and the bad placement of a needless lightbar, the more negative reaction you can ignore!
its awesome how things like that work! doing it so wrong, never has felt SO RIGHT.
Thanks guys thats exactly what i was looking for. if you can keep it comming i am going to try and create some layout plans as soon as finals are done. Thanks again
this is kind of what i was thinking, pls note i did this in gimp which i am not very familiar with, I go back to school i will be able to do this again in scale. but this is at least a start.
A tv that big is gonna pull a lot of power. Also as you will be right ontop of it the viewing angle will be tiny. You might think about a generator instead of batteries. A few smaller monitors might serve you better.
