First of all I have to thank everybody who is contributing the lots of information, plans and pictures to this site.
I´m scratchbuilding the whole pack (which is my first) out of styrene, and it´s a pleasure to work with this material. Can´t imagine better stuff for constructing something comlpex like the proton pack.
But enough said for now…I´ll go on and post some pics:
V-Hook built from steel and aluminum. It was hard for me to get the right shapes but when I look at the finished parts I can say that it was worth a few tries.
The metal assembly of the Ion-arm was also made by myself in the garage of my dad with pretty primitive tools but I think it came out very nice.
Hope you like the weathering. Maybe I went a little bit crazy with this…

Really means a lot when you say this, because I carefully studied every single picture of your pack and it gave me the inspiration I needed for mine…and the final push to start this project.

So when are you gonna come clean and tell us that this is actually your 20th pack…BECAUSE IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE IT WAS MADE BY A “NOOB” !!! :shock: :shock: :shock: so nice, man!
Thanks so much for all your positive feedback. It´s really cool and motivating to read this from you guys. I´m doing my best to maintain the clean look all over the pack.
Today I´ve cut the Booster-tube to size and now im working on the Booster-Frame again. I´ll post a pic of the finished frame tomorrow.
@footree: Just look out for local plastic suppliers (maybe the yellow pages could help). If you can´t find anything this way go to your local hobby shop and buy it there (this is probably not going to be cheap). Another option is to order it online.
Incredible job!! I’ll have to seriously raise my game if I want to have something remotely as good looking as your pack!! I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who got inspired by PVJ’s wonderful job.
Keep us posted on your progress.. I may have to ask you some pointers in the future.

The bricks were ripped straigt out of the wall of Bahnhof Hintertupfingen. Here is the pic:

This stuff are some remaining pieces from old model railroad buildings in 1:87 scale. I had the luck that my father was a huge model train freak when I was younger, so I found the pieces in a spare parts box in the loft.
I included the photo to show that it can be difficult to get the correct sized pattern because everything in the picture is (or should be) in the 1:87 standard scale. I hope this helps a little bit.
Some parts are really difficult to make, of course the best example here is the bumper which I will build when almost everything else on the pack is finished. Some others are totally easy (Ion Arm, EDA box) so it depends on which part you are looking at
Clearly the most important thing is that you take your time and plan everything carefully. It needs also an eye for detail when sanding small parts like the fins on the gearbox.
All in all I would say everything is doable if you have enough patience and are not totally unskilled with your hands.
