Registered sex offender shows up at school dressed as ‘Ghostbusters’ character

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man shows up at a school uninvited, dressed in costume and poses for pictures with students. Who you gonna call? In this case, the police.
Bryan Patrick Scott, 40, is a convicted sex offender who has been on the sex offender registry for 20 years, according to police, and is not allowed on the grounds of any elementary, middle or high school without the advance written permission of the school principal or board. That didn’t stop him from showing up at youth volleyball game at Beth Haven Christian School on October 14, his arrest report states.
Scott is accused of showing up at the school without an invitation or permission dressed as a character from the movie Ghostbusters and taking photos with children.
He is charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration, a felony.
Apparently this guy has shown up to other GB team events unannounced and uninvited. Not at all unlike Gastineau who has done the same periodically in California.
To make matters worse, his ‘team’ knew about his history before hand and went to events anyways.

He (Bryan Scott) was a member of our branch (The Louisville Ghostbusters) for a brief while, but we asked him to leave and cut ties after we found out about his history. It’s been an unfortunate and difficult situation. We did what we could to notify the proper people of his registry following his removal from our group, as well as taking actions to distance ourselves from him. Months later, it appeared that he had formed a new group, which he dubbed “The REAL Louisville Ghostbusters” – adding the “Charities” part just recently. We really have no proof that these new members were fully, and properly educated on Bryan’s past, but regardless, they stuck around well after they knew of it in some degree. It’s likely that Bryan just fed them a series of lies to justify his record, but that’s still no reason for them to have ignored it. I guess not everyone is as cautious as they should be.
Anyway, hopefully this is the conclusion to this fiasco, and we can all return to cleaning up our respective towns.
They should not defend him in any way and I pray that if there is any god or common sense all franchises learn from this horrible person to make sure they know who they are doing events with! Because every one who reads the article makes every Ghostbusters is a chomo!
I do wonder what it is that he did to get registered as a sex offender. I think people hear that and automatically think hes a ■■■■■■■■■. 21 and drunk leaving a bar I stopped in an alleyway and took a leak, there was no one around, but a cop driving by stopped and hassled me. He informed me that doing that can be considered a sex offense and you would have to register for that. he just told me to go home but ever since then I have always wondered. I am in NO way defending the guy, just curious. No question it sounds he should not have been there.
I wouldn’t see why you or anyone would have to consider dropping out of GB cosplay as a result of this man’s actions. Sure, the man and the story are disturbing, but it’s not as if the property is to blame or even directly associated. There are people like Bryan everywhere. We can’t let them ruin what we love with their pathetic and selfish actions.
I do worry such things cast a bad light on the community, and for some when guys in suit are seen it will certainly be in their mind. And not just here, there was the Ed Kramer deal a while back as well. Seems costuming attracts such people, and for obvious reasons.
But watching the news story from the channel 3 news (local to the incident) they certainly seemed to love and appreciate the local ghostbusters. And that they were themselves victims to his lies.
Yeah, we have been receiving a lot of positive support from our fans, the community, and the news outlets. We (The Louisville Ghostbusters) have been a staple in the local community for over 10 years. People know us, and they love us. This is just another pebble in the boot of the GB community, and soon enough it’ll be cast aside.
I used to work at chuck e cheeses when I was in high school and about once a month we would get a older man come in (different ones each month) wanting to apply to dress as the mouse. My manager would take them to the back room for a interview and tell them he knew what they were trying to do. They would panic and run out. This happens all the time. So yeah I hear what your saying about costuming.
If the other guys with the Franchise-We-Don’t-Talk-About who got arrested for the same thing didn’t deter us from our hobby, why should this?
It’s shameful, absolutely, and anyone who defends their actions is a shitbrick but it’s our job to make sure that people can approach us to have fun and to keep the disgusting pieces of ‘human’ life out of it.
Inland Empire had a member arrested for sex with a minor, who met in the IEGB group.
The case goes to trial in January, having been delayed by the defendant’s lawyer five times this year. The arrest was in 2011.
So, I’m sure we’ll have lots of coverage to enjoy in 2014 - so far, not a single article on the case hasn’t mentioned the Ghostbusters franchise. The Fandom has been mixed at coping with the matter.
So, two sex offenders in two franchises in two years. We can officially start plotting a graph!
The minor was also an explorer in the suspect’s police group (guy was a sheriff’s deputy). He tried approaching the Bay Area GB’s table at Wondercon earlier this year. I’ve seen photos of him pop up at other events too.
In all fairness and in order for franchises to stay abreast of current situations would it be possible to distribute photos of these two that way if the event they happen to turn up at these events, the proper authorities can be notified if need be.
I have absolutely no use for any one who is classified as a sex offender. I know that may seem hateful but that’s just the way it is.
