On Saturday February 28, 2009, the Arizona Ghostbusters participated in their second Phoenix Heart Walk. The walk was 4 miles around Tempe Town Lake near the Arizona State University campus. We had one of our biggest turnouts of our members, friends and family. Luckily, despite the temperature being well above average, the weather was perfect for the walk. With our donations collected at the Phoenix ComiCon, our booth at the Art Walk and other personal contributions, we raised $550 for the American Heart Association. We were surprised to run into one of our biggest little fans, Prescott, whom we first met at the ComiCon. He came with another of his friends in the kids GB costumes to show their support. It was a great and fun event as always.
Thanks. We’re just doing a small fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association/Jerry’s Kids next week. We’re helping to sell Shamrocks at a New York Pizza Dept restaurant. They liked the whole Ghostbusters and New York connection so they approached us about helping them out. Each year the local firemen and police help them so this year we are too.
Here’s our poster for the event azspidey put together
Again you guys have it going on! We are probably 1/10th as organized (but we’ve only ben meeting for lees than a year, and the movie sucks up all our time) That is so great that you had kids there in gear an T-shirts! Thanks for the individual pics, too! I’ll have to print them out and put thme on a wall of shame LOL!
Thanks Brad. Considering how much time we spend planning these events, I can’t imagine trying to plan a fan film at the same time. The individual shots are ones we’re going to use for the member page of our website.
Our problem is 1/4 of the group is from out of state (WV) and our schedules are insane. Getting people together for a few hour meeting once a month is hard enough. I’m not sure what will happen when we film (and the script has gone back to the drawing board.
Ryan (RPBurke1978) has been extremely supportive, and is loaning us 2 packs and a PKE meter (in exchange for me assembling the packs/installing the Exoray kits). He sent some money, too (we were close to losing the house). He’s coming up to meet me in Sept and take the packs, so we have to be done filming by then. We were supposed to start shooting late March/early April but it doesn’t look good…
Well, my sisters live in Portland, OR and Mahomet, IL, so everything is 45 min away. In Pittsburgh, if you go 45 min in any direction, you are in the “sticks”. I have 2 malls witing 5 min of my house, and two shopping paradises within 20 min by the Turnpike. So, 45 min is a lot “further” here than it is out West. How about AZ? are things close by or far away? Are you more of a tight nit group or a bunch of floating independents? We seem to be more like that–a group of people with a general cause with little “glue” holding us together.
Phoenix is massive and crowded. Hardly an empty lot in the entire valley. A gas station on every corner. Ever expanding out into the desert. You have to drive a ways out to get to nowhere, which won’t be nowhere much longer.
