Arizona Ghostbusters @ 2008 Phoenix Heart Walk Pics 3/1/2008

Last Saturday morning the Arizona Ghostbusters attended the Phoenix Heart Walk. It was by far the best walk we’ve attended so far in terms of the amount of walkers, location, and events before and after the walk. Our new recruit, John, and his father walked with us. He wore his old toy proton pack which was great. It was a 3 mile walk over the bridges crossing Tempe Town Lake and the surrounding park. Luckily it didn’t start to warm up till the end of the walk. As we were moving through the crowds we could hear people comment on where they’ve seen us before, the comicon, Art Walks, and our other previous charity walks. We did encounter a record number of people who had no idea who we were, however they were all in their 50’s and up. On the flip side, I believe we had a record number of kids who knew what we were. Gives us a feeling of job security.

We ended up raising $400 for the American Heart Association. It was alot of work but even more fun. As always I hope we get some more pics we took with some of the other walk teams so I can get them up as well.

Hey you guys are doing a really great thing. It seems like you guys had a good time at it too and what a good turn out. What would be the best way to get involved in things like this in other towns? I think if everyone did this in their city it would make ghostbusters more than just a movie fanbase but making a difference in your community.

The main way is to simply knock on doors and make some phone calls. Worst you can hear is no, but choose wisely to make hearing a no less likely. After you’ve done enough events like this you start getting asked to appear. All our events so far this year and our upcoming ones, we were asked to come to. Last year we were making calls to appear. It takes some time but people start to realize you’re just having fun while helping out and not a bunch of crazies. Well, we’re still crazies but a different breed at least.

The next time you guys attend one of these events you should video record it. I, and am sure many others, would love to watch it on youtube…

Wait a minute…yep, I just had an idea:

  • This fall (sept/oct) we should try to get as many ghost-heads as possilble to make 3 minute or less “ghostbusters” clip (in costume) and post it on youtube. The vid could be a reenactment to a scene from the movie; a short fan film; attending a Halloween costume party/contest, or just a quick vid of your gear…“the possibilities are limitless.”

We do have a friend with a nice camera and editing software we are going to ask to start tagging along with us. We’d like to make some brief skit videos for our site as well as video of all our events. We’ve relied on people to take videos of us before and have gotten nothing. I’m still trying to get video of our zombie survival panel from 2 people and another video of the zombie walk. If we start doing it ourselves we won’t have that hassle. The one zombie walk video of us up on youtube we didn’t even know was being made. There was a video made of this walk and that has not surfaced either.

When you do, you have to get some footage of you dancing like in the music video, or like the end credits of RGB.

And, if there are some, you could get some footage as you dance with some of the lovely ladies who witnessed the disturbance.

I’ll put in a request for that.

Till then I can only give you these stills:

I’m doing a heart walk too…I guess i can wear my costume again.

Wear it. Doing one of these you’re actually walking less than you would at a con and certainly standing alot less, which is the worst part of wearing gear, at least to me anyways.

It took awhile but the video of the event was finally posted on youtube

We’re only in a couple of quick shots, but it gives anyone who hasn’t done a charity walk before an idea of what they’re like and the scale.
