Pics of Arizona Ghostbusters @ 1st Friday Art Walk 9/7/2007

Friday night the Arizona Ghostbusters headed out to First Friday in downtown Phoenix for our diabetes walk fundraiser. Due to the possibility of storms and the heat people didn’t start stopping by till around 8pm. Once people started stopping by it didn’t stop at all. When we were going to pack up people were still wanting pics with us. Alot of people donated to the walk without taking pics with us. Alot of people shared their experiences with diabetes and showed much appreciation for us doing the walk. We raised just under 200 dollars. The highlight of the evening was meeting the Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon who was just walking alot the art route. Unfortunately we forgot to bring a regular camera with us but we have some camera photos and also unfortuately in our pic with the mayor his face has a shadow on it. I’m hoping some of the people who took pics with us will send some our way so I can post them up as well

We’re still accepting donations at our team walk page

I just got these pics from us getting ready for the birthday party we stopped by a few weeks back. The pics turned out well so I figured I’d put them up as well.

i think thats awsome what you guys did im thinking about doing stuff like that myself if i could only find guys around here that are gb prop builders too

Thanks. Just look around online for things like charity walks, theres tons of the diabetes and ms walks. When you’re in gear its alot easier to get donations than just wearing street clothes.

It’s probably down to people seeing you making the effort, and rewarding you by donating, or donating more then the usually might to the charity.

I just want to say that I’m proud of what you guys are doing right there.

Oh, and if Matt doesn’t have a ‘SPENGLER’ suit, I’d be greatly disappointed… with the wire-rims he could pass for Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler.

Thanks for the support. Matt gets that all the time. My last name is Lewis, and I’m short, so I get the Louis comments all the time. We heavily stress that we are a franchise.

nice to see you guys involved with the community. It’s also nice to see fans doing something worthwhile. You always hear crap about “crazy fanboys”, but you don’t hear about the ones who help out their fellow man. Who you gonna call? You guys! : 0

i second that! way to go guys!

Thanks for the support guys. We have come under fire from some members of the propping community for doing events like this, saying we’re making all proppers look bad. We have fun doing these events, we’re raising money for a good cause, and people love seeing us out. We hope we set a example for other buster groups to follow, not as if we’re the first group to do any charity work, but we would certainly like to see more groups be active in this way. We can’t let the 501st take all the credit for being the most charitable proppers around.

thats just sad. i dunno how anyone could have such an opinion.

Everyone has their own opinion. Our main goal is attract attention to whatever we’re raising money for. Sure we could do it without gear. When it comes down to it, its just something we want to do. Putting a good cause behind going out in gear is better than just going out in gear for no reason at all. I know people like to have their display pieces and all, but I personally don’t see the point in spending the time and money on gear and use it maybe just for Halloween or maybe one convention a year. Then you’re mainly going for a costume contest. Sure, I made my money back last year on what I spent on my stuff from contests and thats great. My team helped me to see we can do alot more than that and give back to the community. We have a pretty busy schedule coming up and it’s pretty much all for charity. So our critics can keep looking down on us, but we’re going to keep doing what we do best.

What? :o  How is it conceivable that you’re using your uniforms and prop replicas to raise money for charity and it’d somehow reflect poorly on proppers as a whole? Like you pointed out, the 501st do it all the time.

It’s frowned upon to do it to raise money for yourselves, not to mention the legal ramifications if Sony caught wind… but raise money for charity?! How exactly does it ‘make proppers look bad’?

Ignore them, they’re just a bunch of mean spirited killjoys.

Make proper’s look BAD? Well, the Pharasees busted on Jesus for healing on Sunday, so, I guess you’re in good company. I donate blood platelets, and am active in my church (but not in gear : ) You’re doing fine, don’t worry about them.

Well I think the accusation is that we’re desparate for attention.

I was told we did make it into our local College Times paper. I’ll get the pic posted up soon.

Here’s the scan of our pic in last weeks College Times paper.

It´s just great! Congrats!
