Attaching the hose to the end of the gun

I’m just about to do this but want to know HOW and is it wise to do it permenantly or make it removable? I’ve not fitted any gun electronics yet as they aren’t here and I have my first event in 2 weeks so just need to get my pack finished.

If I’ve not fitted any electronics should I only temporarily join the cable to the gun, or can you do it permanent and have no probs when later feeding wires thru etc?

Which hose are you talking about? The wire loom? There’s a few ways to attach it… but basically you can just shove it in the end of the handle, or use a wooden plug that the loom will fit around and that will fit inside the handle.

There’s a great picture I’ve seen (and can’t locate, it might be on Norm’s plans) of how to put the electronics in there with the wire loom and make it snug.

my bad, it was in Norms plans, but they were done by CPU64- Enjoy!

Beat me to it.

well what i did was drill a hole at the top near the end of the handle…then put the loom in the handle and then took a small screw(a long enough one) and basically just screwed it in…it went right into the loom and ive never had a problem with it coming out or anything…so thats a pretty good option IMO…finding a small enough screw that is long enough is the problem…i got mine out of an old CD player that didnt work anymore…

The only problem with screwing the split loom in place is that it will coil up in an awkward position when the thrower is drawn. The quickest and least destructive way is to wrap a couple of inches in electrical tape at the end of the hose until it is snug enough to stay in place but can still rotate to a more slackened position when drawn. Also as Cythusly mentioned, push the hose all the way in the back handle.

Hope that helps.

I’ll try that then, but I like the idea of the thin steel cable, as extra security - anyone know where you get them from? With the clips too?

You can get the cables from a fishing store… They should have little kits to make ‘steel leaders’ as most of the over the counter ones will be too short…

Also except for my electronics in pack gun kit it’s only a few wires that need to be run down for my regular gun kit… For the electronics in gun kit, I HIGHLY suggest you make it all removable as getting the 60+ wires from the gun to the pack through the loom is a task in itself… They do fit but it’s not like you are simply going to slide them through…

Short of anything else, a couple wraps of black electrical tape will provide an easy to remove temporary solution as said…

Wow, I can’t believe its been so long since I made those rendered plans

The reason why I added the clear hose was simply to keep the gun from hanging by the live wires in the even that the steel cable wasn’t used.

And to kill some of the cheap flimsy feel of just loom with wires inside..

And 60+ wires?? holy ■■■■!

My gun has 2 wires coming from the pack. Of course, I don’t have a light kit for the gun. Just bulbs and switches.

Woah.

Who is putting 60 wires in the loom?

I thought my 4 wires was tough.

If you get my electronics in pack gun kit, where most of the electronics are pack mounted you need to run 60+ wires up to the gun for full control of all the lights and switches… And yes it can be done and you can get them all inside 3/4" loom, it’s a tight fit but it can be done…

5 independent switches/buttons

30 independently controlled LEDs in the gun (8 for the barrel effect, 15 for the bar graph and 7 other lights)

1 laser

2 independently controlled vibration motors

That is 38 independent devices that need to be controlled and wired independently between the pack and gun if done with the electronics brains residing in the pack…

And due to the circuit design, yes it is a few more wires then required, but there is are other reasons that when factored in, weigh in favor of more wires…

If you get my normal gun kit it’s MUCH less, 4 to be exact and one phone line once I get my sound kit done…

See.. I never thought anyone would want to run that many wires from a board in the pack to into the gun. Better to just use the gun kit.. though I’m sure you provide some kind of small gauge wire bundle to go with it.

And a partridge in a pear tree…sorry couldn’t resist.

Yeah I agree mounting them gun side is the better option and how I designed my kit, but because of lack of space some people want the room in the gun for things like extending barrel mechanisms and sorts, my kit pretty much kills the whole gun cavity if mounted up there… So I adapted my kit to be installed from the pack…

As for the wires, its basically a 34 and 30 count ribbon cable, and then a few other small gauge wires… The ribbon cables when folded/rolled/twisted are actually pretty compact… The biggest issue is of course getting the ribbon cable ends through the hole, and a split loom is pretty much a necessity…

If you have ever looked at the fancier 40 count IDE/ATA cables used in gaming machines you can see how tight ribbon cables can be rolled, as an example here…
