Not really going for the Afterlife look exactly since I want it in black. I just think having some sort of textured/cloth sort of tape around the handle would make for a more comfortable grip. If it matters I’m thinking mainly for painted plastic.
For me, and this is just my opinion, I would go with black athletic tape. Egon would’ve modified these packs as necessary with whatever was around and easily available. Black athletic tape would’ve been available at any corner drug store, and will be relatively easy to replace/remove should you change your mind! Plus it’ll look cool/weathered once it starts to fray!
I second the black athletic tape. That’s what I used on the handle of my Hasbro Spengler wand after replacing the thick plastic “tape” with a 3D printed grip. It’s softer and much more flexible than duct or gaffer’s tape and makes for a comfortable grip. It’s also a thin tape, so it doesn’t make the grip “chunky.”
Thanks both of you. I was at Walmart today and picked up some black lacrosse tape. Told the guy in the sports section I wanted some tape like you’d wrap around a hockey stick or something. My only gripe with it is that there’s a seam down like 1/3rd the way across the tape. Very minor thing but like, why do that? It might be in the high 50s on Wednesday so maybe I’ll give painting my wand a try if it is.

I used athletic tape and a green and brown grime wash.
I’ve got black gaffer tape around my rear wand handle and it looks and feels pretty good. Gonna see if I can upload a pic later.
Figured I’d just post my end result here instead of make a new thread. I’ll buy some decals later to put on the proton blaster MOD. I’ll probably shove an ion arm in on the spirit pack at some point too. The black on the wand doesn’t match the pack perfectly but I don’t mind that much since I really did not want to tear down pieces from the pack or take the back off to paint it. I could nit pick it all day but for my skill level, the relatively low cost of everything, and how the spirit pack now looks a hell of a lot better, I’m happy. A display and Halloween piece until the HasLab pack releases.
