Best thing to use for the cyclotron?

Hi Guys,

I love this site! I’m half way through building my first pack but I’m looking for some opinions on the best way to construct the cyclotron… Earlier today I bought one of those microwave plate covers, it was the right size but when I started cutting it just all cracked up and now I don’t think that’s the way to go. I still have some ply left from making the motherboard but cutting circles with a jigsaw is a real b**ch and I’d rather not go that way either. I hope someone can help me out here!

Thanks in advance

making the cyclotron can be a little tricky so best thing to do is buy one ready made.

JT94 sells them and he is based in the UK too

here is his for sale thread with price etc…http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=11593

I think doing the cake pan method was pretty easy. Basically you need a rubermaid lazy susan (it supplies parts for two cyclotrons), and a cake pan for each,

Hardest part was drilling the holes in the cake pan, and if you follow advise here and have a drill, its pretty simple.

When drilling a large hole like these, you use a door hole bit set, which can be found as low as $5. you stack wooden blocks under the cake pan, invert the cake pan, and then drill trough from the bottom into the blocks

Once its done just use a hammer or mallet to lightly tamp down any edge bumps from drilling. It isn;t critical, because you will be epoxying the washers over the holes anyway.

Once I have the enters marked on the pans, cutting the holes in two cyclotron pans took me maybe 15 minutes.

Thanks for that guys.

I think I’m gonna go with JT’s, the cyclotron is quite an important piece and buying one from him will avoid me mucking up cutting one from ply or drilling holes through my hands trying to cut through a cake pan! It’s so difficult trying to find parts in the UK…

Cheers!

Thanks Garee! I was at another post and I have a few at the house but had NO idea how to tackle the holes. My hole saw bit cost me $15 at a hardware store but it is adjustable and nice. I used it to drill the holes in the resin to put the flex tube at the bottom of the packs for Ryan.

I’ve never had a problem with using the cake pan,but the wooden craft ring is another good alternative.

Only real problem with the washers is they are very heavy, and you need a good epoxy like jb weld, or something similar to make em stay on.

We also used the walmart reflector cut into quarters for the cyclotron lights, and that worked perfectly!

I just used high temp hotglue

damn things will not come off at all.

XD

An industrial glue gun is a great option for them, but me,I just use a 60 sec Epoxy and those things are on for good.

I used the bottom of a spackel bucket for my cyclotron, just cut off what you think it good, that is what I did.
